Himachal treks, low prices possible?

Hello We are seven and we are interested about doing a trek in Himachal Pradesh this summer. I have asked to some trek companys by email prices and they are between 50 and 70 Euros person and day, this is too much for us.

I understand that they offer guide, porters, sleep bags,tents,food..."all include" but it is too much for us.

For us it would be enough just a guide and a couple of porters to bring the food and the tents, but the other can be bring for us, and we have already tents, bags and even food if it is necessary.

Do you think that perhaps it would be cheaper waiting until we were there, in Himachal, and then to contract anyone talking about in the hostal, in stead of doing the deal with a trek company?

Anyone knows the direction of a "cheap company"?

Finally, How much risky It is to do the trek without guide but with map? We are thinking about treks like: Hamta pass, Sara Umga Pass or until Deo Tibba base camp.

Yes it can be cheaper, but if is probably better to plan in advance...

The only risk is of getting lost temporarily, so if you have a few days to spare, you can always back-track and then find the correct route... Depends on how adventurous you want to be

Why Sara Umga, why not Manali pass? Reportedly a bit dangerous. What do experienced trekkers say about this?
