Hi,
Give Dayara bugyal ahead of Uttarkashi a try and for trek you may go to Dodital. But keep in mind the heavy snowfall in the mountains while planning your trip.
All the best

For your head, of course Vashisht my friend. For your heart perhaps Uttaranchal. More seriouly, it is very cold after sundown this time of the year in vashisht. But the sunny mornings will have powerful effects on your active mind. There will not be many travellers to talk to in case you are the social type.

Hi.
I am travelling to Manali on my own on 17th to 20th of
March, 2008.
Can you please advise me on the following to the best of
your knowledge, it would be of great help. Please guide
me and oblige.

1. Do I need to book a cottage or hotel in advance or
will I get a good choice if I choose to arrive there and
hunt for a place? My budget is 1000-1500 per day. Which
is the best place which I can get. I would prefer a
cottage.

2. How much will para gliding cost me? Can it be done in
half a day? Are 3 full days enough to cover Manali -
Rohtang - Solang Valley. I just know these 3 are good
places by what I have read on the net.

3. How much do I pay for a cab for a day, and for those
3 days, to have the cab all by myself day and night?

4. I have heard Old Manali is a great place to party.
Any information on good places there? Is smoke freely available?

5. Will Manali crowded during that time? i.e. 17th to 20th March 2008? Is it season time, or off season?

Also, any information which you deem necessary for me to know, please pool in. Any information would be very valuable for me.
Thanks in advance for your response.
If feasible, please e-mail me on feedmespeed@gmail.com

Best regards,

It is off season of course. Hotel rates would be cheaper. Bargain a little.
Usually there is no party in old manali in March. But who knows some intrepid guys from Chandigarh might just land up. Don't worry about the smoke, it is easily procured.
Staying in vashisht is another option and I recommend it. There is a hot spring there and the people are friendly.Vashisht is 3 km from Manali and the autorick fare is about Rs 40.

The road to rohtang is closed in March.Take a vehicle as far as possible on that road. The scenery gets better and better.Go to Naggar for a day trip.
But this a good time to go 'cause in the season Manali is a bit too much these days.

Thanks but one more tip

Thanks a lot OneLove. However I had one more query. Hadimba cottages is giving me cottage for Rs. 1400 a day now if I book. U think I should book now? Or will I get the same or similar place is lesser the rate that time?
Any recommendations for cottage? And how far from the bus stand r they?

Hadimba Cottages sound good even though I have never stayed there. There are a couple of nice places(though not cottages)halfway to old Manali like Banon, Johnson,Glenwood(or did I just make that up )etc.Hadimba is on a much higher spot though.
Personally I would have gone to either old manali and vashisht, put the luggage in some cafe and hunted for my dream place. With your kind of budget it would have been easy. But there are few cottages there.Sometimes a room with balcony and great view does the trick.
I also think that 1400 now but more later is all bulls.

Well, i spoke to a few folks who run lodges etc in the Kinnaur valley and they say it's alright to get there, and even the road to Kaza is open.

I have been doing some research on getting from Chandigarh to the Kinnaur valley and i have returned with negative results, however i got info on how to get back from there.

Can someone give me a link or shed some light on how i could travel from C'garh to Kinnaur? I know the only possibility is a bus. But, when? where? are questions that even the internet is not providing me with. Yelp me!
