| Hiking/trekking in Leh/Ladakh August 2-4? Hello all - This is my first post on IndiaMike and I have done my best to read the existing wealth of information so excuse any redundant questions. I fly into Leh Friday, August 1 and would like to go on a series of day hikes or one overnight trek the following Saturday - Monday (August 2-4) before returning August 5. I know it is a short amount of time for Ladakh but all I could manage. I have contacted Himalayan Eco Adventures on the recc of a friend and they have suggested an overnight trip to Likir (details TBD). So my questions to the forum are: 1) What are the "must see" and logistically reasonable spots around Leh/Ladakh for these 3 days? 2) Is anyone planning to be in/around Leh then and organizing some kind of trek that I could potentially join? Thanks in advance for the guidance. Rebecca |

| Resonating | Hello 1st and foremost, you need to acclimatise for a day or 2 in leh since u are directly flying from delhi..its very important Trekking hmm.. Nubra is close and possible for 3 days, and im forgetting a day hike from leh. i think its from spituk to stok, not sure since i havent been to ladakh personally. But rest assured there will be someone answering you questions. Karan Last edited by Lucid; Jul 24th, 2008 at 19:50.. |

My trekking group of 2005 had an unfortunate incident in 2004. One of their members started trekking the Markha Valley Trek immediately after landing from the Delhi flight. He became ill with typical AMS symptoms within the next two days. He was to be brought back (to Leh) on horseback, but when the horse reached Leh, he was already dead. I am not saying you will die. Being miserable with sickness on a vacation is worse (than dying). Just laze around Leh doing very short walks for the first two days. Start trekking on the third day. If your agency did not give you this simple warning, they are not worth the money you are paying them. As long as they get money, these people don't bother whether a person falls sick or .... . If time is a real constraint and you HAVE to start the very next day of your landing, then go for a jeep safari to various places like Pangong Tso etc. Read this thread about acclimatization before you jump in where angels fear to tread... . Don't mind my language, the purpose IS to alarm you. . .

| Draft itinerary Thanks so much for the tips and warnings re: acclimatization! I will definitely take it easy the first 2 days of the trip. Here is my current itinerary: - The 1st day (I arrive via air at 8am) will be spent around the town of Leh (bazaar, etc.) - The 2nd day I will visit some local monastaries (eg, Thiksey, Hemis, Shey Palace, Shanti Stupa) - On the 3rd day, I plan to visit Tso Moriri. - The 4th day is still up in the air. I am considering: Lekir, Spituk to stok hike, Taktok, Rizong, Keylong/Sarchu, Khardung La and Kargil. - The 5th day I return to Delhi via air. Any suggestions for that 4th day would be much appreciated! I am generally more interested in nature/landscapes than monasteries (after a few I tend to get bored) but am open to tips. Many thanks. |

| Dear Rebecca, Tso Mori in a day would not be possible, its about 240 Kms from Leh, So u can reserve day 3 & day 4 both for Tso Mori. Also Visit Tso - Kar, in case you are going to Tso Mori
