They are in Tibet proper.

Crossing over land from India is not allowed as of today.

You can fly to Lhasa and go to the Tsangpo gorge.

Here's a pic of what it looks like in the falls area, the highest points of the Gorge can not be photographed because it is so deep!
You cannot enter from India only from the Tibet side,i found a company doing expensive tours last year which i was very tempted by but they were setting off 2 weeks after i found it, so not enough time to prepare, i don't know if they'll be going again this year i'll try to found out & let you know, but please note this is not a stroll in the woods by any stretch of the imagination! Here's a link to the story of an American Kayaking team that ran the Tsangpo river through the deeper gorge.

Here's a company doing tours to the area, but it's a tight itinerary for a "Quick look" & you will be restricted to this.

Here's a birds eye view of the gorge just to give you an idea of the scale!

Here's a map in case you get lost!!!

Here's some details of Ian Bakers book about his adventures in the gorge & the discovery of the falls, i've read a few books on this area & IMHO this is the best one.

Here's someone doing it from the Indian side, but very pricey.

Here's a Delhi based company that does it from the Indian side.

10zing, you sound quite keen to visit this area, what are your reasons or interests in the area & how did you come to hear about it? KK

Great links KK,

especially love that photo from above the falls.

The Heart of the World is a great book. Amazing blend of scholarship and adventure, and the writing is wonderful too.

Thank too KK for the Brunton recommendations. Very satisfying and filling.
