Har-Ki-Dun in November
Har-Ki-Dun in November
Hi folks,
I am new to this forum. A bunch of us are looking to do a trek in Himalayas where we are likely to encounter snow. We want to plan this for the last week of November. One of the places suggested was Har-Ki-Dun. Can anyone give more details about this? Also, is this the right time to go? Also, if someone can provide links to earlier discussions on this topic, it will be really helpful.
Cheers!

Hi Deadwing, Welcome to IndiaMike.
Just scroll down and you'll find links to threads on Har-ki-Dun trek. You can also try the search feature for more threads (with alternative spelling Har ki Doon, etc.).
Or see this thread: Har ki Dun Trek
The blog by fellow IMer Almoraboy (link below) is also very informative.

Hi vko,
thanks a lot for your response
I already had a look at almoraboy and chitrang's blogs.. Its very informative and pics are amazing!
I had one query at this moment.
Is november end the right time for this trek? Will we be able to have a snow trek during this time? Also, are there any dangers of the trail being closed due to heavy snowfall, landslides etc during this time?
thanks

I haven't personally done this trek (though I wish to some time in future). But from what I've read about it, this trail can be done throughout the year. Not sure about the how much snow you will see in November end. I'm sure someone with more info will come along to help you.

The trek you can go easily in Nov. Even fact, round the year except Jan-Feb and that exception too only if it snows heavily. November would be chilly and HKD might get first snowfall in higher reaches but chances are slim, and even if it snows in Nov, it'd be mild and it won't be like the pics you've seen at Almoraboy and Chitrang's. Wait for atleast Dec 15, and to be sure for such views, try Christmas time. The danger of trail being closed is low during Nov. Although civilization is a nice place to visit, I wouldn't want to live there...
