Sounds great! I have done this trek in summer through YHAI. Do share your pictures here after the trek, there would be so much snow!
Hi
I am planning to do HKD in winters, late december. I have gathered that we do not generally need to carry camping gear as there are rest houses en-route.
Will they be opened in winters? Can we be sure of accommodation by booking somehow so that we get along without carrying tents/sleeping bags?
Thanks!!

Cost adnd other details
Hi Abhi,
I have the urge to jump-in.
1_ How much is the trek cost (approx is enuf ) ?
I have some back-ache problems (aged 31),so does the cost involves porters also ?

Ooops..I meant you Araib instead of Abhi..when are you planning to go exactly ?
Araib - I am planning this in January 2012. From what i gather from posts on this site, Christmas time is rushed as it has become a popular time. One option is to book through GMVN (which someone said was not possible in off-season). Other option is to fix up a guide beforehand and ask him to get the caretaker to open the huts. My suggestion is check first with GMVN (23350481, 23326620) and then one of the guides (chandan rana, ramlal, chain singh rawat).

Don't depend on the rest houses, of which I have had not so good experience. Once, even the one at Sankari was closed in June and I had to find the caretaker to open it up. He left quickly enough and I spent one of the most spooky and adventurous nights there
You must carry a sleeping bag even if you get in touch with a guide...it will at least serve a purpose of clean cover, if nothing else. Also, there are some home stays on the way too, but do not have any contact details.

Sometimes, the joy that the Daybreak brings, is unparalleled!
