HAR KE DUN in may2008

Hi,everybody
This is the first time i am writing about my trekking plans.I am Planning a Tour to Har Ke Dun with my elder bro in mid march.I had visited Tapovan last may where i spent a night up there.Thats as much real trekking i have done, andi had a nasty headache due to altitude effects.
My querry is
How difficult is this trek going to be compared to the previous one,and
Is a visit to Ruinsara tal trek worth contemplating realistically speaking?
will be waiting for some advice
Thanks beforehand.

Hi, and welcome to IndiaMike. Try a search on Har-Ki-Doon or several alternate spellings (har ki doon, hari ki doon, etc.), which should lead to a lot of results. Just backtracking through the Mountaineering sub-forum you're in (or the Uttarakhand one, if I'm not getting my locations mixed up?) should throw up plenty.

hi,
Har ki doon is good trek..in this trek u wont face altitude effects... co sit's just a (3566 m)..and tapovan is (4400 m)...
if u compared both trek so har ki doon is easy one with full of greenery...

har ki doon is one of the easiest treks around. people do it in winters also. and no altitude problems - you will be below the treeline most of the time and hence plenty of oxygen. the only tough part can be the ascent from osla/seema onwards.

i was not able to go to RT due to too much snow, but i am sure it will be equally beautiful. at least the path going from seema to RT was looking really beautiful, laden with snow.

also, if you have time, try kedarkanta peak. that is near sankri and should be visited. also, that area is a bit strong in terms of drinks and drug usage. try to take guides and porters who are not drunkards.

Thanks to both Himalayan boy and Almoraboy for your advice.
Almoraboy`s posts have been a source of great photos and information for me,so thanks to him particularly.
Is it a must to have tents for RT,or are there caves and huts on the way in Debshu bugiyal and RT itself?

hi,chits 007
we are planning to spend a day at HKD.
How far is the swargarohini base camp from HKD?
A single day to and fro...?
We can even spend an extra day at HKD if needed.

Hi ,

For swargarohni base I know only rahul550 ( see this post ..Har ki Doon, Anyone ?)
who went there..you should also try it...)

Jamdhar Glacier and Munindra Tal are realtively easy trails .

What are your plans?..have u arranged guides etc..
If you want to go to these area better have a guide ..you can take Chandan Rana with you he is a experinced guide..better take pony and couple of porter that will save cost ..
His contact number is 9410532978...
I put some details here
http://chitrang.blogspot.com/2007/01...ar-ki-dun.html

You should try Munindra Tal and Jamdhar glacier atleast they are not very technical...and the beauty of the area is too good..

Hi,
I do not have any experience of the trek to HKD but have read much about the place.
Firstly are you going during May as the topic suggests or during March as your text suggest.Due to heavy snowfall this winter the trail above Osla may have lot's of snow. Do spend time at HKD then trying to go for the Ruinsira tal. Keep RT for the day you come down or go up the Bali pass to Yamnotri or do the Dhum Dhar kandi pass. Take care and hope to hear from you on completion of the trek.
VSK

Hi,
Thanks for the correction. Also since it is May, you should not worry much about snow being on the trail. It should be all good conditions. All the best
