Hampta Pass-Chandratal in July/August

Hi,

I was contemplating a trip to Manali-Hampta Pass-Chandratal beginning around the last week of July or the first week of August. If someone could answer the following queries for me, that would be great.

1) Would it be raining on the Hampta Pass trek or the Chandratal Trek. I dont like the rains, and if it is raining, i wont be going.
2) I plan to start the trek from Manali, cross the Hampta pass to Chhatru, and trek from there on (Batal) to Chandratal, spend a day at Chandratal, trek back to Batal and catch a bus to Manali. Is this feasible.
3) Can these two treks be done solo, without carrying any camping gear, sleeping bag and food. How safe would it be doing it solo.
4) If i need to take a guide with me or if i need to do it in as an organised trek, what will be the typical charges. (i am all game for a no-frills trek).
5) a female friend of mine might accompany me on this entire trip. would it be safe to do this entire trip just by the two of us.

if anyone is planning this same trek around this period, let me know your details. we might join up.

thanks.

1. Hampta Pass rains likely. Chandratal not so much.

2. Very feasible

3. Tents and full camping gear required, even though Hampta Pass trek duration is reduced due to new road.

4. Guide required for regular people. If you are an experienced trekker and confident, AND you both can carry 25 kg each, you can do it bt yourself.

5. Someone has posted a Hampta Pass post on the "Trekking and Mountaineering Meetups" sub-forum. Reply to that....

HAPPY TREKKING

omkar,
i think u will need a guide for the hampta pass trek.
i went in a group of 15 from batal-chandertal to baralacha pass last autumn around beginning of september. we just managed to finish the trek before the weather worsened in the area. so i think u would need to look out for rains but i think it should be ok till chandertal.
as for female friends.... these are known routes so it shouldnt be a problem.
u will need to carry tent etc for most part of the route though acco should be available at chandertal and also batal.

cheers!
