Green Lake Trek in December in Sikkim?

I got this query through my blog and as I know nothing about the Green Lake Trek in December, I am posting it here. Maybe some of you can help?

"I have read your most informative FAQ on trekking Sikkim in December 2007 on this website: http://www.gonomad.com/traveltalesfr...ember-faq.html

I would appreciate it if you can kindly advise me on the Green Lake Trek (Lachen--> Tallem-->Yakthang--> Yabuk--> Camp site --> Green Lake---> back trek to Lachen) in December... more specifically from 16 to 31 December 2007. Is it doable and recommendable?"

The person is from abroad, will it require some permits etc.?

Green Lake

I have got a reply from one tour operator that at present, the Indian Govt. is not issuing permits to visit that area. I am waiting for replies from other tour operators.

Smile

Now a days, permission for Green Lake Trek is closed due to some govt. reason. Secondly, doing it in December second half should not be recommended.

i don't think the permission to green lake have been closed, we have got the permission on November. but most of the trekking agencies don't want to do green lake because of the huge porter problem.

The porter problem in Lachen seems to be an issue indeed. That was also evident in the account in the link provided by Saikibryan.
November should be a hard time for this trek.Where did you get the permits from?

i don't think November will be heard time for the trek. in fact it will be heard in September or October. the forest is very dance and virgin, so it will be more difficult if it rains or after the rainy season. this is why we have chosen end of October for the trek.

just got back from Green Lake trek. the trek was really awesome. but the porter problem are beyond imagination, haven't seen this type of disgusting and annoying porters in my whole life. so the only thing that can be said about them is BEWARE OF PORTERS....
