Plus a little note for others. Weinbrenner shoes are now available in India. Bata is marketing them. They have excellent hiking shoes. The grips are good and the soles are neither too soft nor too hard. Just right for miles and miles of walking over all kinds of terrain.

The shoes are priced at around Rs 1200/- You are likely to find them only in upscale BATA stores so go out and get them. There is one problem though, they don't have ankle support. However, most of our hikes are over trails so it is a good buy for all treks that involve lot of walking and good grips. They had excellent traction on 60 degree snow incline too.

Ladies, buying shoes for you can be difficult sometimes. You never get size 3 or 4 or 5 shoe. Power (for women) has a good imitation of the Weinbrenner shoes at these sizes. Again, you can get them only at upscale stores. The price? Rs 700/-

thanx, Arjun.

I've already placed the order and as per their size chart. They've also called me and confirmed the order. I should get the boots within 3 - 4 days. In Rs. 799/- no shoe can be a better one from this . One more info. needed, though I will use thick woolen shocks, Just asking, how abt the cushioning in it??

Your woollen socks are fine. The padding is so-so in this shoe but adequate.

Dear Supratim

Glad to be of help.

This morning we did a day-long hike for about 1000 ft. Over mud, slush and rocks. The shoes held up pretty well with good grip.

Arjun,

How much does it weigh? I saw some Woodland shoes, but found it to be very heavy.

Also, how good is the ankle support?

Basically, I am going to VOF end of Aug. I was planning use my jogging shoe. But I noticed that if it is raining, then it may get wet and can become uncomfortable.

Thanks

Hi Hill Man

The shoes are quite light weight. About 60% of the Woodland shoes that you talk about. Ankle support is good too. Covers your entire ankle well, so no chance of sudden twists.

In a downpour this shoe is a good option. But running for cover is a better idea!

Hi,

May I know what kind of problem u r getting from it?? The cousioning is not up to the mark, but I'm using it regularly in various terreins and with quite comfortably. Rs. 799/- shouldn't bring more than that, else other manufacturers will be angry .

That's a great tip, TIP (no, I'm not stuttering ).
Have never needed ex-army stuff till date, but sometimes wondered how easy/difficult it wud be to get if required. Sadar Bazar isn't even very far from home.
Thanks much!

Hi Dilliwala

I have bought a lot of stuff from Sadar Bazaars all over India.

Back packs, Tent, water bottles, Shoes, socks, jackets, sleeping bags et. al

They are dirt cheap and are the best you can get!!

Oh.. forget to mention.

All these steps are good but heavy to carry!!

For instance my tent, three people can sleep in it. is VERY HEAVY! I can't lift it and walk a few kilometres. So it makes sense if you have a porter or a vehicle carrying it for you..

HI.
have u seen the duplicate colombia shoes or the hiteks or uplanders in the market. colombia cost 700 bucks and is much better than this thing. a good inner sole is must for trekking and this thing doesnt even have it. yes, those shoes are not available everywhere and in this price you cant expect more than this. actually i think my expectation was too high.....
