Question good agencies in Joshimath?

Hi

Me and my husband would like to do the Kuari pass trek in mid April and instead of going for the all inclusive treks from Rishikesh we'd like an agency from Joshimath, I figure it would be cheaper. Could anyone recommend some good ones, and including contact info?

Thanks a lot

Your concern for the cost is very fine. It usually happens that you end up paying more to the agents sitting in Delhi for a trek like Kurai Pass which is actually starting from the place about 500 kms away from the place it is sold and operated by local people. I can recommend you a local agent in Joshimath which I used for my own trek to the area. The company name is Eskimo Adventure. They dont have any website but are good reliable guys. The contact person is Mr. Vijendra and email id is vijendrakapruwan@yahoo.co.in.

I did Kuari Pass from Auli a year back..almost all agents in Joshimath enable this treak as this is the most staple one.

You could look for High Adventures..the guide you should try and seek with this agent is Mahavir..he's an excellent person..very interesting..accomodating and proffessional. He's highly trained and experienced..has been on several climibing expeditions with large groups as well.

The office of High Adventures is located in the main market..should be easy to locate. Unfortunately I have lost their contact numbers.

WARNING !

There is NEXUS going on in AULI and JOSHIMATH -as soon some people see rucksacks and ponies going in jungle for trekking-they stop you...introduce themselves with rough voice that they are FOREST OFFICERS and also show WALKIE TALKIE set ( The guy who talked to me-even could not switch it ON )

They charge good amount from you- I even shot a picture of one of the person-sent it to SSP and SP of JOSHIMATH but no one replied.

Kindly check this out !!

Their is obviously a tax of some sort that needs to be paid to the Forest officers before you embark on the Kuari Pass trek from Auli. Most good travel agents build in this tax within the trek charges which include the guide fees, porters charges and the utilities as well. The District Forest Officer's residence cum office comes on way while driving from Joshimath to Auli and it takes all of 10 minutes for the trek guide to go inside the office, pay the tax and get the necessary approval.

If you are in joshimath area then make your trips with ADVENTURE TREKKING GUYS.

They are based in Tcp market and have a nice internet cafe over there. I have been there many times with my own groups.

Also they have run there small cottage at Auli road.. i do not know much about that cottage but i get news from them.

They are budget travel agents over there, you can also find them in new edition of lonely planet and Nantional Geographic magazine.

What a great services and support they provide to peoples, although there are many travel agents over there and i do not say that do not go there, but i suggest you that if you are in joshimath, do not forget to visit Adventure trekking guys, really really they are so nice, you can also get there contact number from D.F.O Forest department and same from C.C.F Dehera dun they are also keen to promote eco tourisum with all treks.

Just be there and get there ideas and meet them...

Pls : carry good warm cloths and other stuff with you, as i find last year that the local agents have not good quality equipments as i get message from Forest Department that daily evening its good snowfall in all high passes, so pls be carefull and prepare well for this trek if you are doing in mid April.

I hve one of the guy email adress Mr.Shikhar, email adress is
adventuretrekking@rediffmail.c om

We are going to trek in this region again in June month....

Cheers !!

Just to clear things up. The official email address of Eskimo Adventures is: aeskimoadventures@rediffmail.c om (note the additional 'a' in the beginning of that email-address is not a typo) or also adventure22@rediffmail.com
