Gaumukh Nandanvan
Dear trekkers
I am planning to trek to Gaumukh and Nandanvan this year in late Aug - early september. I need the following advice from you 1. Are crampons required/ recommended 2. My dad (70 years) is also going to be with our group. Will be it be too arduous for him. To give a background last year he did the Panch Kedar trek without too much of trouble 3. Any precautions to be taken while crossing the glacier 4. Some other threads mentioned that there are boulder sections on the way to Tapovan, just wanted to clarify are these on the Gaumukh Nandanvan leg or after that 5. Any other suggestions Thanks |

tapovan,nandanvan
hi,
You just plan as per yours father because in this trek you gain height soon so you first take rest 1 days in Gangotri, then to cheerbass then bhojpass then then 1 day rest in bhijpassa then start to Tapovan. In beetween Gomukh & Tapovan you walk at the glacier so there are morane(stone) so go easy and take more time because you father is old & they want more time for acclimitize. From Tapovan to Nandanvan easy trek route Quote:

I agree with Trishul, the ascend is quite stiff acclimatization is very important. I would also be very careful of the stretches with moraines. I think GMVN has a tourist lodge at Bhojbasa now, earlier Lal Baba was the only person to provide shelter for visitors. Spend a day here to acclimatize.

Hi,
Good your father is also visiting mountains with you. You are lucky. Well, till Gaumukh it is a pilgrim trail and I don't see any problem if as you say your father has done Panch Kedar. If he climbed to Madhyameshwar then Gaumukh is nothing walk wise. Yes the altitude goes up fast and you need to move up slowly. For Nandanwan you require all camping equipment and may be your father stays back at Bhojbasa while you go up. All depends on how he feels. Mind you after 3 kms from Bhojbasa you are in the glacier and trails are not like what you had during the last years trek. One needs to be careful. |
