anybody been to gangotri / yamunotri in january? are the roads up there closed by any means?

. any other serious advices welcome. mountaineering during cold season is not the problem here .

what if we plan for visit these places in winter (Jan/Feb), is there any restriction in going there. We are avid trekker and can carry all the ration and tents with us only. This trekking is not religious, just interested in knowing , how beautiful these places looks in winters.

You will need to get permits from DM/SDM Uttarkashi and SDM Barkot respectively. For Gangotri area you're also better off with your own transport, public transport will be practically non-existent beyond Harshil/Dharali.

Permits will not be an issue, our primary concern is if some one already done these treks in winters. I know one, Gangotri completed by Tilak Bhai in January.
