Hi Milindji,
1. Ponies are banned to enter Gangotri National park. Hence its all trekking.
2 & 3. Bhojbhasa has 2 accomodations. a) GMVN & b) Lalbaba's ashram. You don't need to book earlier & can easily find room in any 1 of these.
4. Ideal itenary is Gangotri->Bhojbahsa (stay)-> Gaumukh-> Bhojbahsa (stay)-> Gangotri
5. Trail till Gaumukh is well defined & guide is not necessary. In case u feel can take one for the entire group. What I fell is to take some porters to carry your belongings. Keep most of the belonging at Gangotri & carry only the necessary items.

We Are Agroup Of Ten Persons Aging From 50 To 60.
Some Of Our Members Are Mentally Not Ready To Trek From Gangotri To Gaumukh. I Have Learnt That Ponies Are Banned In Natrional Park.

Is There Any Chance Of Getting Dolly From Gangotri To Gaumukh And Return? If Yes, What Are The Aprox Charges?

dolly are not available ahead of gangotri. ahead of gangotri only those peoples are allowed who are well capable to take care of themselves. anyone going towards gaumukh & further should be mentally and physically fit.

Can some one explain the difference between the two Monal Resorts in Uttarkashi?

Their web sites are:
1 http://www.monalresorts.com/home.html

2 http://monaluttarkashi.com/

The first one is quite costly and the second one cost about Rs 900 per night.

2>gomukh - tapovan [stay]
3>tapovan [stay and explore]

4> i have contacted himalayan sherpa of NIM as per threads read he has given me quoation of the above from uttarkashi to uttrakashi as [ 4000inr per head for 2 ppl] and [3000inr per head for 4 ppl] i have not bargained or anything just inquired.

You don't need help of any trekking agency for Tapoban. Just fax your details & no. of porters-cum-guide you plan to accompany you to the DFO Uttarkashi. Stay a day at Uttarkashi & obtain the formalities, also vist NIM & hire tents, mattress, sleeping bags from NIM. Take porter-dum-guide from Gangotri. For details regarding permission & NIM plz browse the forum & you'll have the info.

Happy trekking.

Dear sks,
The 1st site declares the address of Monal Resorts as below,
MONAL RESORT
(A Unit of Himalayan Hotels Corporation)

Rudraprayag
District Rudraprayag
Garhwal (Uttaranchal)

Phones : (01364) 233901 to 904 (4 Lines)
Telefax : (01364) 233160 / 233905

Whereas the 2nd one (i.e. Monal Tourist Home) is at Uttarkashi.

I hope this resolves ur confusion.

Thanks Sandeep,

For some reason I was under the impression that there was a Monal resort in Uttarkashi but clearly that is not the case.

We will be staying at Monal Tourist Home and the owner is really a good man.

As you are from Burdwan; can you get the real "Sita Bhog" these days made with real ghee?

I'm from Burdwan. Good Sitabogh is available in 2-3 shops. I'm not sure about the % of ghee & banaspati they use in the "ghee" varity but yes both sitabhog & mihidana are classified into 2 version, a) ghee & b) dalda.

You seem to be knowing this part of the world. Any connections to Burdwan/Bardhaman?

thanks sandeep

my problem is

1>as per dates i arrive uttarkashi earliest by sat night and sunday is a holiday and hence need someone to pick up the permit for e

2>as per ur guidance if i arrange for tent mattress from nim carry them to gangotri and find porters at gangotri for the 45 day trek. this sounds good but we are students of upanishads and also photographers who are doing a feature on the spiritual places.

we would not like to burden ouselves with weights and do what we are there for. so do u suggest that porters from gangotri may double up as guyide cum cooks and for 2 ppl seeing our requirtements how many porters do u suggest

3>also i read about nandanvan so in case we plan to go to nandanvan instead of staying one day at tapovan will that trek requires guide . [also is it a must to see nandanvan as from scenic point of view]

our previous exp at trekk as follows

1>sarpass
2>chamba valley
3>kashmir, pahalgam, aru valley
4>sikkim, bhutan
5>mizoram
6>desert trek in rajasthan
7>gir forest
8>spiti valley
9>ladakh
10>vof, hemkund

hope u can help

also regarding the guy Himalayan sherpa and his package of [4000inr all inclusive from uttarkashi to uttarkashi] how is it

hope u can help

NeelTaal..

Hi,
I am interested to know which option will be better as per as exploring NeelTaal @Tapoban is concerned.

a) Bhujwasa->Gaumukh->Tapoban then explore NeelTal the same day.
b) Bhujwasa->Gaumukh->Tapoban Stay that day.Explore NeelTaal the next day and then come back to Bhujwasa via Gaumukh.

I think NeelTaal is approx 45 min climb from Tapoban. So exploring will take some 1.5-2 hours if everything goes fine.

Please correct me if i am wrong..

Also one more doubt , how feasible it will be to reach Gangotri from Tapoban the same day.

Looking for the reply..

Deabjyoti,
I think the 2nd option is better. Personally I was so exhausted after crawling up the last strech to Tapoban, I was not feeling to walk for another 5mins to the camp site leave aside NeelTal.

Although it is possible, but for the locals & few experienced climbers. Although I shouldn't be judging your abilities, but given a choice (as I did on my previuos visit to Tapoban) I'll spend the night at Bhujbasha & enjoy the massive Shivling & Bhagirathi trio for another day before coming back to the concrete jungle.

Have a great trek buddy.

Har Har Gange

Hi All,
Today i along with my parents reached Chennai around 9:30 in the morning from Delhi.
Completed the Gangotri-Gaumukh pilgrimage trek.
The weather was very very bad after Gangotri and i had to cancel the Tapoban trek after reaching Gaumukh , due to weather condition. All arrangements including Guide-Porter , Tents , sleeping bags , mats were there , but weather didn't allow me to go to Tapoban. Anyways , we had a nice journey upto Gaumukh. Thank to Mother Ganges for our safe journey.

Regards
Debajyoti
