Welcome to IM. If you are a regular treker then you dont need a guide for Gongotri - Gaumukh trek. Otherwise can hire a guide (but not absolute necessary). The route is ok except few stretches where the help of guide is required . This is a very popular treking route & can be done solo. No problem at all. will find lots of fellow treker /tourist en route. Camping is posiible in Chirbasa/Bhujbasa. But not at Gaumukh (near the holy cave). There are quite a lot basic accomodation available at Bhujbasa including GMVN Tourist Lodge , which can be booked in advance & on line too.You will get several small food joints(for chai ,aloo paratha , maggi , chips , biscuits, pepsi/coke cans , mineral water) on the way to Bhujbasa . The weather should be fine in October but night temp. can be around 0 -2 deg. Cel. .So be prepare for that.
