Some suggstns

Avoid Gaumukh & further in October. All the reasons above.

Take the Ghuttu to Panwaali Kaantha to Tri-yugi-naaraayaNa route. Both of you will enjoy it.

Your 10 year old will enjoy it with mother. Don't mollycoddle her. Don't keep on telling her "don't do this and don't do that" as mothers do. Just keep a benevolent eye on her. Allow her to be "dirty" and "unwashed" sometimes. Only mealtimes require proper washing of hands.

Ask your family physician to recommend an antibiotic which suits both of you in case of severe stomach infections. Just a precautionary measure. Not to worry you. Am a doctor myself. Sometimes children lose water + salts very rapidly in case of severe G.I.tract infections. Carry electral to replenish salts and Vit B complex plus folic acid as a supplement.

Ideally, NO medicines will be required. Just carry them.

See that both of you pee clear colourless liquid every day. Dark yellow pee is a danger signal. NO POTTY at all is a very big danger signal.

Both indicate "no acclimatization" coz of "inadequate water intake"

ENJOY the Trek!!! Happy Trekking!!

Thank you somnath for the link. Thanks Dooms for the detail.

Avidtrekker, are u talking about the gourikund trek? If so won't it be too congested at that time? But we've no problem in opting that. Actually we have heard that gongotri galcier will be a prohibited zone within a couple of years. So we are bit eager to experience it before it becomes unreachable. And thanks avid for such a nice advice. yea i always carry medicines. this time before i go i'll check those with you

Friends i, my husband and our daughter just three of us go for trekking each year. My daughter is an excellent walker. At the age of five she trekked in & around Dalma range in chhotonagpur. At the age of seven & half she went with us to Sandakphu at the end of January. From Tumling we got snow. after kalapokhri the scenario started changing. all over there was snow. the last leg from bikebhanjan could be easily mistaken as a place somewhere in tundra. I haven't seen so much snow in my life. my daughter was extremely thrilled seeing the christmas trees all around. she was also expecting santa. There wasn't a single trekker on our route save we three, one of our friend and two porters. The day we reached sandakphu blizzard started. it continued thru that day to next day. Wherever you look it was white. i realized what is AS WHITE AS SNOW. My daughter could get out once just to make a snowman. after two days the blizzard stopped & the sky got clear next morning. while coming down she walked straight to Rimbik from sandakphu without uttering a single uh or ah

Wrote this just bcoz want to share with you all.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing and Congratulations to a proud mother of Bachendri Paul - future . I’ve seen this type of family last year at Dzongri / Goecha la rout. The Madam Princes of the family was around 8-9 yrs and believe me she was smiling and enjoying even after the famous steep trail of Fedang . Amazing!!!! Good luck to you all. I also had the similar blizzard experience at Sandakphu so I can understand the divine beauty of the place. You can see some of those pix here:

But, hats off to your courage, Sukanya.

Ghuttu to Panwali Kantha to Sonprayag to Gauri kund to Kedarnath crowded in October?? Only GKund to KNath will have people. Not many in Oct. The rest of the trip hardly anyone.

Gangotri has become commercial and barren. You will be disappointed somewhat. Gaumukh has retreated by 1.8 km and no longer is the cow's mouth shape...
