Gangotri - Gaumukh In November 2012
Hey Guys
, need some help please.. can anyone tell me, How might be the weather in Gaumukh (early November 2012)? Is it surely possible to get a permit in Gangotri? Because then I can save a day by not staying in Uttarkashi for the permit.
And one more important thing is, After my Gaumukh trek, I am planning to go to Chopta, so how can I go from Gangotri to Chopta (not by private cars)?
Please help me out guyz.

Hi IMers. I am planning to do a trek till Vasuki tal. My iternary start from November 2nd 2012 from Delhi. Will reach haridwar/rishikesh in morning 4-5 am.
1. Till what day the gangotri temple remains open? (If it same as other dham, it may close on or a day before deepawali)
2. Can any one guide me if i will be able to trek the glacial till Vasuki tal via Gaumukh---> tapovan ---> Nandanvan and come back before 10th November 12? (i.e I heard a permit is required for Tapovan etc.).
3. I am planning to buy a tent for camping if I had to stay during journey at tapovan, nandavan etc. can anyone advice a good brand?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Plinash,I had never been to Gangotri. This is my first time to this place and will be having a friend of mine with me. I will be at haridwar/ Rhishikesh on 3rd Nov 2012 early around 4:30-5:30 AM. If you are alone, you can join us. I have a tent in which 3 person can stay. Let see if we can go above Tapovan or else we can club a small other trek i.e Chopta-Chandrashila. I hav been till Baniyakund (4 kms below Chopta), so have a bit idea of the palce. Let me know.

[/QUOTE]Hi tapovan 2025,
Thanks for the useful suggestion. The contact number will be really useful. I have brought 3 person capacity camping tents waterproof from Wildcraft.
I have a question; Can you tell me how much far is Nandavan/ Vasukital from Tapovan. I.e how many days from Tapovan till Vasukital and the back to Tapovan. As we will be having a good sleeping bag which can resist the minus temperature. What scenery/ special can I find at Nandavan/ Vasukital? Thanks for the useful suggestion. The tent T 3 Wildcraft good speacilly at tapovan and nadanban.
Tapovan - Nandanban ( 07 kms.) but depend on gangotri glaciar , every time the way locations changes.
Nandanban - Vasukital ( 06 kms).
day 01 tapovan - nandanban ( 7-8 hrs.)
day 02 nandaban - vasukital - nandanban ( 9- 10 hrs.).
Please don't try to trek now Nandanban or Vasukital, can't find water this time, do trek till tapovan or do day trek from bhojbasa and back to bhojbasa, temp at tapovan - 5 to -10 * c.

Hi tapovan,
Thanks for the guidance. I am in process of buying a sleeping bag that works at -5 to -10 degree celsius. But still I will analyse the situation and proceed. If danger exist, I may trace back from Tapovan. I have a last question:
On 6-7 November, may I will be able to find trekker/hiker around or above tapovan. I mean to say if I am alone (depending one of my friend does not come with me to the trip) above Tapovan, are there any danger of wild animals. I am interested to know if I have to take a guide if ever I trek above tapovan till Nandanvan/Vasukital. Are there trekking path or way or any sign board with whose reference I can trek alone? I have a magnetic locally made navigation compass also. Just let me know your views.
