Gangotri and Roopkund trek in May/June.
Gangotri and Roopkund trek in May/June.
I'm planning the Gangotri trek (till Tapovan or maybe Khara Patther) in May end or Early June. and looking for companion(s).
I also need help in planning the Gangotri trek itinerary.
I want to cover Gangotri, Kedar Tal, Tapovan, Nandanvan, Gaumukh Glacier, Neel Tal, Kirti Glacier, Vasuki Tal and Khara Patther (please tell me if I missed anything to be seen in this trek).
I have no time constrains.
Some queries:
1.) Any permissions required?
2.) How will be the weather in May end?
3.) What all gear I need to take along (if any)?
4.) I'm planing to camp all the way through. Is it fine?
5.) Planning with the food.
6.) Will I need a guide? Charges?
7.) Anything else I need to know?
Tips and suggestions are welcomed.

Well,I am a bit bemused about your queries which to be honest seems to me a bit jig jag one.
First Route
Gangotri---- Cheerwasa-----Bhojwasa-----Gomukh---- Tapovan.
Based on Tapovan you can trek to Neelataal.
Tapovan------Kirti Glacier------Nandanvan
Nandanvan------Vasuki Taal------Gomukh-----Bhojwasa----Chirwasa-----Gangotri.
Camping point need to be decided according to the requirement of the Trek Team.
Second Route
Gangotri----Bhojkharak-------Kedarkharak------Kedar Taal & Back.
Now answering your specific questions.
1.) Any permissions required?
Yes, Ofcourse. The permission is required and available from DFO, Uttarkashai or DFO, Deradun. For Vasuki Taal you need to deposit a refundable amount of Rs 10000/- by A/C payee draft favoring DFO, Uttarkashi.
2.) How will be the weather in May end?
Hope to have a clear weather during that period but no one can produce extreme guaranty
.
3.) What all gear I need to take along (if any)?
Tent, Sleeping Bag and if possible ICE axe and rope for crossing Kirti Glacier and other necessary staffs required for high altitude trek.
4.) I'm planing to camp all the way through. Is it fine?
Its ok.
5.) Planning with the food.
Need to carry ration with you.
6.) Will I need a guide? Charges?
Its mandatory as you are attempting to cross glacier several times.
7.) Anything else I need to know?
Read some detail informations about this trek in this forum before you need any respective answers.

Hi. The final dates are not decided yet as even I'm looking for people to join in. One guy says he can join after 8th of June. So I think June is the plan (say 70%).
This guy: http://www.indiamike.com/india/membe...hit99-u106182/
I'm planning to trek till Vasuki Tal or till Nandanvan atleast (including the kedartal) as some say trek till Vasuki Tal might prove to be a bit long trek and stuff like that. But I don't really care about the number of days. Let's see how it goes. The final rough plan is still to be made.
Total number of days would be around 9-11 days. I'm not sure of the total cost. It will include the charges of guide, porter(s), ration, permit and extra equipments(if needed). My rough budget is around 6-8k.
Last year I did trek to Kheerganga and Malana village in Himachal. And I regularly do treks to the local waterfalls. I'm not much experienced though.

No point to reach Nandanvan without vasuki taal...... Nandanvan to Vasuki Taal and back to Nandanvan is doable in a single day only.
6 to 8k!!! Not Possible.
