First timer trekker - help needed

Hi,
I have read most posting here and have to say they are very informative. I plan to trek alone in gharwal region starting this weekend and have about a week. Would prefer to sleep in guest house/camp and don't want to carry tents and supplies. thinking following options

- Valley of flowers hemkund : Is this totally bad idea at this time? are these treks open now?
- May be go to gangotri and travel up to gomukh and come back

Please comment on above or any alternate trek suggestions. any tips on how to arrange the trek will be of great help.

-Shyam

Hi Samxyz,
You can go to Hemkund Sahib but Valley of Flowers is not worthwhile to go in this time. August is the right time for it.Trek to Gomukh will be perfect. You also can avail buses from Gobindghat to Badri in this route. Then Trek to Mana village and from mana to Vasudhara Falls (in a day). Happy trekking.

valley of flowers

hi,
the best time to visit the valey of flowers will be when flowers are out in full bloom.that shud be from mid june to mid september.i would prefer the second half of the period.
it is a very rewarding effort.but if you go to the valley ( or for that matter any other trek)- please be environmentally concious).bring back whatever non biodegradable things you take with you into that area.and remember even the biodegradable items lake longer in cold climates to degrade.
and especially for the valley of flowers- do not walk overand trample,or pick or try to bring back any vegetation or flowers from that area.it is a legacy in our hands to safegaurd.
as far as i am aware ,access to the valley is allowed during daytime only and camping activity is prohibited.but a tourist rest house is available at a spot called ghangaria, about 4 km away.
take care.
