Everest Calling

Hi all,

All my bags are packed & I am ready to go Everest Base Camp this Sept.Till now I have planned it solo but if any of you want to join me , my plans are here for you...

MY EBC TREK ITINERARY
26 Sep- Kolkata to Kathmandu by IC 747 ( Ticket purchased already)
27 Sep- Kathmandu to Lukla by Mountain flight,( Ticket purchasing from travel agent in Kathmandu by paying advance) Trekking from Lukla to Phakding (or Monjo if possible)
28 Sep- Phakding/Monjo to Namche bazaar
29 Sep - Acclimatisatio in Namche ( day trip to Khumjum village/monastry etc)
30 Sep-Namche to Tengboche ( If possible can go farther to Pengboche)
1st Oct- Tengboche to Dingboche
2nd Oct- Acclimatisation in Dingboche ( day trip to Ama Dablam base camp)
3rd Oct-Dingboche to Lobuche
4th Oct (Full moon day ) - Lobuche to Gorakhshep to Everest base camp & back to Gorakhshep (Tough day)
5th Oct-Gorakhshep to Kala Pathar & descend to Lobuche or farther down
6th Oct- Lobuche to Tengboche
7th Oct Tengboche toPengboche
8th Oct-Pengboche to Namche
9th Oct-Namche to Lukla
10th Oct-Lukla to Kathmandu flight,
Note : If we come back to Lukla by 8th... then would prepone the ticket & fly to Kathmandu on 9th. It might be possible to come back to Lukla by 8th , but as it is a trek of a lifetime, its better to keep one extra day.
Hence you can book your return ticket from Kathmandu on 11th Oct.
The major cost heads are :
Air ticket : Kolkata Kathmandu round ticket : Rs 10728 ( Cheapest oscar fare available ) Kathmandu Lukla round ticket : Rs 5300 ( Trying for this SAARC discounted rate, but this might increase which is applicable to foreigners)
Porter : Budgeted approx Rs 500 (INR) / day . This is Inclusive of his Food charge. We have to negotiate at Lukla. For 14 days this comes Rs 7000 (INR) If we take a common porter (Which is possible with proper planning, I had done it in Annapurna Circuit trek /Base camp trek & others) this cost could be INR 3500/head.
Lodging : The room charges are ~ INR 200/day. Total INR 2800/ for the trek. Hence INR 1400/head FOR TWIN SHARING.
Food : ~INR 500/day/head . Hence INR 7000/head.
Entry charge : Might be nominal INR 600/head.
Hence Total cost for solo trek(Kolkata to Kolkata) : 16k+7k+3k+7k +0.5k = 33.5 thousand.
If we go jointly then the cost per head(Kolkata to Kolkata) : 16k + 1/2( 7k+3k) + 7k+0.5k= 28.5 thousand.
I have taken some extra cushions in fooding/lodging, But Lukla-Kathmandu flight ticket may cost more, So should carry some extra cash for emergency.
Need to carry your own sleeping bag but tent is not reqd as all stays would be in tea houses. Standard comfortable trekking shoe with good grip would do. No ice climbing involved.

Hi again,

Just read yr post re EBC in Sept. pls read my report of EBC just done, with detailed costs e etc on Crossing the border forum. Entry to National park is NC 100 for Indians. Good porters are NC 600 pe day. food at INR500/NC800 should just abt be ok. remember they sell hot drinking water !!! roms are Nc200 for a dble in Sept/Oct which is peak season and CROWDED.
make sure you get yr down jackets in KTM. Bengkar is better than Phakding n just 45 mins away. Dewoche, 20 mins after Tengboche is better, there is a nice place just on the left of the trail 10/15 mins after the fancy River Dell lodge . for acclim. in NBazar climb past the airstrip at Syangboche n walk the ridge past Everest View hotel to the furtherest East point frm where you can see Tengboche, Phortse etc. lets know if you need more info cheers

Yes KP,
Actually I find that end Oct is a better time than end Sept as the rain clouds are less powerful, this helps when you are in the initial part of the trek (villages/cultivation fields) .I have to merge the Puja Holidays with my leave so I opted for End Sept. I always target the Laxmi Puja full moon night at the high mountains ( I mean white mountains). So I have been in all the different base camps in various full moon nights (Laxmi Pujas!!) But the best time according to me is the next full moon night,14 days after Diwali no moon night. Its probably the Buddha Purnima. Its not too cold then, the next Purnima becomes too cold I think although visibility would be better. Plan in such a way that you spend the full moon night & the previous night at the best/highest place AND DO MAKE IT A POINT to come out at night , however cold it is, to enjoy the sight.White mountains reflected in Moonlight is a real sight. If you exp it once you would be hooked booked & cooked forever :-)))
Dear Kst Akarn,
thanx a lot. Yes we would discuss the tours in next meet up. Whats up in yr front ?
