Dzongri / Goechala Trek information
Hi There,
I have just become a member of this forum in a hope that someone could provide me information regarding the Dzongri or Goechala trek that I am very keen to do in late Oct/early Nov 2008. I plan to arrive in Bombay from Melbourne on the 27th of OCT and then plan to leave on the 31st to Bagdodra/Sikkim. I have no clue about any trek operators in and around so will really appreciate if I could get some information about some trek guides. Although, I have contacted the tourism India for some information too.I will have another friend of mine joining in from Perth and we wouldn't mind if we had more company if someone were interested in doing this trek too. Looking forward to hear from one of you! Many Thanks, Jo |

Goecha La
We used the services of Barap Bhutia of www.sikkim-holidays.com and found him to be quite competent and reliable in arranging our permits, equipment, guide, staff, cook, accommodation and transport. There were two of us in our group and we had no problems with his outfit. If you have the time, you could ask him about returning by a different route.

try to fly into Kolkata if you want to go trekking in Sikkim.
You could ask at the Garuda hotel in Pelling. They are in touch with more than one agency. |

Thanks for the info Praks and singsub. I have been reading in the news that there seem to be some sort of trouble going on in that region. I hope that it subsides by the time I land in India.
I had another alternative. Dharmasala / Leh. Are the treks open during late OCT in these regions? Many thanks, Jo |

There are some political disturbances occuring en route to Sikkim presently. You can hope that it will calm down in October.
The weather in that area in late October /Early November may not be suitable for reaching Goecha La.You can think of some options in Manali/Dharmasala area. |
