Dodital Trek (22-24 March 2008)

Hi Guys

I have been reading post for long time. I got nice information on Chopta and Dodital. Lot of Thanks to you people.

I went to Doditaal last weenend. It is a peaceful place and I would like to visit again.

Night1 1: Delhi to Haridwar
Day 1: Haridwar to Uttarkashi to Sangamchatti to Agora(trek)
Day 2: Agora to Doditaal and back
Day 3: Back to Delhi

It is a easy but long trek. It was a great test of patience for me .

I have contact information of porter and taxi drivers. Feel free to ask me.

See There is place called Natraj Chowk, where you can get a Mahindra MAX, my driver told me. Also you can get Cabs from Dehradoon. He told me that, for uttarkashi and Gangotri region Haridwar is not a right place. So reach Dehradoon early morning. You can evan start your ride as early as at 4 am (he told me).
Also you can hire sleeping bags from Delhi itself. You can find a small shop in Chirag Delhi (I dont know the exact location)

Driver Name: Manindar Rana
mobile Num: 09411523637

Porter: Vikash Lama
Contact: HighLand Trek & Tours
Pitamber, Uttarkashi
013374 222680
09412026657

Another Cab Driver Number : 09358091714

Taxi Charges (INR) are:
Dehradoon to Uttarkshi: 2000
Hrishikesh to Uttarkashi: 2000
Haridwar to uttarkashi: 2400
Uttarkashi to Sangamchatti: 300

Hey Chits,

I was not having leaves. I have to finish it in Friday, Saturday and Sunday and on top of that I love trekking and walking long distances. That is the reason behind my short trip. Walking from Sangamchatti to Agoda (6-7 km) and from Agoda to Doditaal (18) was good experience as it is a simple trek.

If one has a few days more, the Dodital trek can be combined with a trek further ahead via Darba Top et all all the way to Hanuman Chatti...

The view from Darba Top is just outta the world. If you see carefully, you can actually see a small speck of blue down under, which is actually Dodital itself... And all around you are the glorious peaks... The Bandar Poonch mastiff...

And if you trek on, you need to cross the Pass dividing the Gangetic Valley and the Yamuna Valley... You can actually make out the subtle differences...

Had gone there a couple of years back, and the best time we had was at Dodital itself, where we spent two nights in the temple premises because it was raining cats n dogs and it wasn't possible to pitch our tents...!

Between the two valleys, when we were crossing the high pass, we had rain n hail n sleet n a bit of snow and it was an amazing experience walking like that... There was just no place one could hide to save our heads from the real huge hail stones...! Imagine, four or five of us crouching under a boulder fighting for space to save our blessed heads...!!! Well, thatz how it was...!!!

Cheers...!!!

Hi,

there are lot of buses from Delhi to D'Doon. You can get good Delux AC buses from Kashmiri Gate ISBT.

I don't think there will be any snow left on the last 5 km (Manji to Doditaal) trek, it is already started melting.

I have already given you number. These guys will arrange you most of the things.
Now for FRH you have to go to Uttrakhand Government official web site's Uttarkashi Division..

As any vehicle coming from Dehradun has to pass thru Rishikesh to go to Uttarkashi, Dehradun is NOT the right place to start this trip, Rishikesh is. Consequently the nearest station is Haridwar. I also do not agree that road transport is difficult to arrange from Haridwar; nevertheless the best thing to do is hop on the first bus to Rksh, from where there's plenty of buses/jeeps going to U'kashi, including the ones coming from Dehradun.

You can write to the Divisional Forest Officer,
Kot Bangla Road, Uttarkashi 249193.

You may not get a reply in time (or at all), but if available they will reserve the dates for you. You will still have to go to the office in Uttarkashi to make payment and pick up the permit.
