as season is coming, this thread needs a pat at the back to put itself in notice again

back on the forum after a loong time. yes sandakphu still demands a visit.

Babjuji, you seem to be the Prophate over this place .Pl. accept our respects.
We are Nature Lovers. 10 Familes of 10 Friends with kids and Grandpas.
Trekking may not be every one's bite amongst us. some of us would love it.
We are exploring to reach Sandakphu by Jeeps.In May 2006, Some of will go around for Treks and others would do what ever they like.
Can you please tell me where to book the Huts at Sandakphu ?
How much would the Jeep would charge to drop us at Sandakphu and recollect after 3 days , in the month of May ?

well,sandahphu is a very popular trek and is considered one of the most beautiful treks in the Himalayas.I did it in 2000.Lotta trekkers hut on the way..so dint have to carry tents.the panaromic view of kanchenjunga ,lhotse and the other peaks in the early mornin is just awesome...and the red and white rhododendrons all around ...the mountains looked so colourful..
i wud surely visit the place again somday..

Thanks for the reply.
We need 12 Jeeps. Should we book in advance ?If yes, where to approch ?DGHC?
From where it will be economical to hire ? NJP, Ghoom, Manebenyang or Darjiling or some other place ?
How much time it takes for Jeeps to reach Sandakphu
from NJP, Manebenyang and Darjiling ?

U can reach there if U can hire 10-11 landrover jeeps....it wiil be a tough proposition. becoz those jeeps can not be booked from anywhere outside manebhanjang...at least I dont know...Mr diggal of DGHC may help u... call him

now whether they will gat an accommodation for 75 in sandakphu thats a bigger question. it wont be in a single hut that i can assure u.

and I shud say that MAY is not the ideal time to go to this part of himalaya....it rains from that time so u may be in soup (of rain water and mud of course )...its end of pre-monsoon season and u may or may not find jeeps wiling to go up in skidy-bumpy-stone paved road.

let me conclude with the point that Sandakphu is not a normal tourist place... like darjeeling or simla or ooty. jeep ride is Treacherous and walking is the best option. so leave behind some, make the team smaller and try it within april.

time 3-4 hours from Manebhajang booking from there...previous night booking may be possible.
rate Rs400-500 appox (ask Mr diggal for info as I have walked not jeeped)

If u reach siliguri in morning... take a car/ small bus in case of big team from NJP siliguri to Manebhanjang...it takes 4-5 hrs. stay overnight there and book the jeep to sandakphu for the next day.

but getting 12 landrovers will be tough as there may be in total that many vehicles in the small hamlet.

Thanks for making us aware of the situation so nicely.
We are 48 People.Not 75.
We are looking for Fullmoon Night on 13th May to be most unique one.

Kindly suggest alternate place at which there will be no electricity and very few people around except us at @ 10,000 Feet altiutude, having a jeepable road and capacity to accomodate 48 persons (12 Familes).

which place is better for viewing sunrise - Tiger hill or sandakphu?

I went to Sndakphu (& Phalut) in mid December 2005, from whatever I could gather there are 2-3 jeeps (modified Landrovers - 1950s make) which ply once a day or so. The road is jeepable but I would prefer to walk rather than suffer a bumpy & dusty ride.

The place is indeed beautiful with awesome views of kanchenjunga (Lhotse group is really far to get a good look). Particularly from Phalut,it looks as if one can climb one ridge to reach kanchenjunga.

On a separate note, what makes you believe that ifyou have the resources & information to reach places which others don't have? Else, what were you thinking when asking for information on places with motorable road where your group will be the only group. If 48 people can reach it with some bit of web surfing then so can a 49th person.

Can you tell which place would give better sight of Everest than Sandakphu in Sikkim/Darjiling region.?

What palce is Half Way betn Manybenjang and Sandakphu ?
If we do not get enough jeeps, We can try to ply the jeeps and elevate the group up to that half sandakphu place on first day and cling to upper half Sandakphu the next day.

As the places like Sandakphu have limited resources, and I don't know exact limitations, I am looking for places to suit our days but not too much crowdy.

Ours is a too noisy group and I want to take care of 49 + person's peace.!!!

I know every one on this planet can reach Mt. Everest, in that case, on the particular day I would like to stay home.

Essence is imp than figures.

everest can be seen clearly only from nepal....In India sandakphu gives the best view..... u can have binoculers to aid urself.

if u want jeepable road and still a serene place then u can try rishap near kalimpong. go to west bengal forum to get the details.

there are some place in north & west sikkim also....but this forum is not the right place if u dont wanna trek.

Thanks again for replying to dilute trekers posts.
Now we are finally 56 people ! 12 friends and 2 cousine friends (Friend's Friend is a cousine friend!!)
Some of us definatly want to have trek but some cannot and some don't want.
Have you been to Maharashtra ? You can think of Melghat Near Amravati for your next trek.
I will explore more about the places you have suggested.
