thanx Somnath...i was looking for the address of DGHC to give it to uppal.

Uppal, contact directly to DGHC(darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council) coz they are the sole propritor of the lodges.....and WB tourism acts just like an agent....

New variation....

hi all,

as monsoon is knocking the doors...I am suggesting a little variation to those planning to trek in darjeeling region.

as i have mentioned....its not enjoyable going to Sandakphu during monsoon, May-September. But monsoon also brings with her a vase full of Rhododendron... go to singalila national park....not for the panorama of worlds highest pics but for the flowers.

BARSE is a rhododendron sanctuary and in full bloom in july-sept.

here is the link to an article in a popular travel magazine, BHRAMAN, published monthly from kolkata....
http://www.bhraman.com/this_month/article2.html

its more or less motorable...only a small one day moderate walk is needed. from hille to Barse. Resting places are there…no way it should be classified as hard trek….i.e. anyone can go and bewilder in the flowery valley.

and if u have enough time end energy u can give a try to Sandakphu and then move on towards BARSE, there is trek route.....

2 weeks leave? And it was approved? You are lucky Aztec; I want to apply there . We went to Sandakphu during late April and we were lucky we found flowers and snow both. I’ve seen Rodo and magnolia during late April / May in this region but of course the timing as suggested by Babu for Barse is the best.
I think you are planning for the combined one and also can understand it is tough to come twice for the almost same trail. Then best possible timing could be this only.

for that follow this route guide (only trek)

manebhanjang -> joubari/gairibas -> sandakphu -> phalut -> gorke -> hille -> barse -> hille

6-7 days of well paced trek. take precaution from heavy rain.

from hille u will get jeep to return siliguri jorthang etc etc.

now we know u r the lucky one....but as u suggest that u r lonely ....sponsor me and somnath and we wiil make u happyaztec..

Barse seems fantastic. As we will be in the area in a week, one question, where is BARSE? have not found it on the map. Is it in Sikkim or in West Beng?

Going there!!!!

Thumbs up Hi Babu

"The peaks are much closer from Phalut, but the majesty of the panorama is experienced at Sandakphu."

This is a very common debate and that’s the conclusion Babu!!!! Nice posting and thanks for sharing . Bad weather is a challenge between Sandakphu and Phalut. A resting spot could help a lot but again, who will do it?
Lets pray, so that our @#$%& Govt. becomes kind enough to make this beautiful trail more popular.

no, no, please dont make phalut and singalila too popular..... its ok if a handful of entusiasts go there....but if the full tourist flood of sandakphu (ya flood, I mean it, due to landrover service between manebhanjang and sandakphu) goes ahead to phalut then the plache will lose its glory.

I think u wont be happy to see even sandakphu as dirty and crouded as darjeeling..!!
