Deoria Tal/Tungnath/Badrinath

Hi Friends,
I am new to the forum so if a thread already exists on the same route then please direct me to that.
I am planning the below itinerary by driving by myself accompanied by my parents for 15 days:
- Delhi-Rishikesh
- Rishikesh - Gopeshwar (Stay at Pears and Peaches)
- Gopeshwar - Tungnath - Chandrashila - Gopeshwar
- Gopeshwar - Ukhimath - Sari - Deoria Tal - Gopeshwar
- Gopeshwar - Badrinath
- Badrinath - Delhi

I am looking at:
- Recommendations on the itinerary.
- Places en route as well as at destinations I could stay. I know for sure that getting GMVN TRH's is extremely difficult.
- Any other nearby places that are worth visiting while doing this trip.
- Suggestions on weather driving own vehicle is recommended or not.

Thanks in Anticipation.
Amit.

If you are going to end your trip at Badrinath, I would suggest the following broad schedule:

Rishikesh-Ukhimath (via Kund)

Ukhimath-Deoria-Sari-Chopta

Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashilla-Chopta

Chopta-Badrinath (via Gopeshwar, Chamoli)

Badrinath-Rishikesh.

If you plan to visit Chandrashilla early morning to view peaks, you may have to stay at Tungnath overnight.

How fit are your folks? Tungnath though a short climb (3-4 kms) is a tough one. I would agree with Sadanandji's recommendation of satying overnight at Tungnath, though the accomodation there is basic. We had once camped out at Chandrashila overnight in a full moon night and the view of Chaukhamba was amazing.

Thank you guys for replying to my queries. To answer about the fitness I had done treks like Vasudhara falls, Kedarnath and Yamunotri, though I must admit that we are not regular trekkers.

Thanks Sadanand for the itinerary, I was not aware of the route through Kund as well as I was not sure of the places in between where I could halt for night if required.

Guys can you also let me know if it is worth driving by myself or should I take taxi?
Also, when you say acco at Tungnath is basic, what essentially it mean? Is it clean or not!!!

You were going in the wrong direction, but Sadanand has given the road route you shud follow.
Make your base at GMVN Ukhimath. If you book early enough, you shud be ok. Gopeshwar you shud/cud stay only when you are done with the area and moving to Badrinath.

ARE YOU KIDDING??!!! If you have the confidence, self-drive ANY DAY! Not to mention that it'll be a lot cheaper. What kind of car?

Thanks Dilliwala for your replies. Just could not return back to you earlier due to work. GMVN acco is always difficult to get and hence I was asking if there are any other reasonable locations to stay. I have tried Ukhimath already and they say it is tour season and hence all the rooms are booked.

I had driven to Badrinath, Adi-Badri, Nainital, Almora etc. So definitely I think I can take the car. Mine is a Ford IKON. I was just wondering if taking the car and doing the treks be advisable.

Hi,
Having your own vehicle is good and it is better if there is some one who is not into trekking and may like to wait for you at the road head while you do the short treks. In 15 days you can do much more with some planning.

You haven't mentioned your travel dates, but as of now GMVN has rooms avbl from 1 to 7 May. Even outside these dates, I wudn't give up just yet. There are always cancellations - keep checking their website regularly. I wud even walk-in to check on arrival. But if meantime you get other accom in Ukhimath or nearby, that's fine too.

Ford Ikon is fine.
