Cost of huts to Sandakphu / Phalut

could someone please give me an idea as to how much a/ a bed and b/ a meal would be, when staying in a hut on the sandakphu - phalut trek. cheers

I went up there in March 2002. at that time the a bed (dormitory system) in DGHC huts at Tonglu, Sandakfu, and Phalut did cost Rs. 40. And a non-veg meal with two eggs, rice, dal etc. did also cost Rs. 40. you can book the beds at the DGHC counter at the ITDC office at 4, Shakespeare Sarani, Kolkata.

please note that i am not sure if there is separate charges for foreigners in this places. and also note that taking a guide is now must in this route.

I went there in last April.The DGHC trekkers huts in Phalut & Sandakhphu offered beds in the dormitary at Rs 100/- per night, per head.There are also two seperate rooms in these huts that can be reserved for a group at a higher price.
But recently heard a news that the hut in Phalut has closed down due to certain problems. Please check it out from the DGHC office.
If that is right,as there are no other options for staying in Phalut, u may need to take tents.

There are a lot of private lodges/huts in this route. Prebooking not necessary. You have to take a guide as it is a rule now...he will guide you to a lodge.

is sandakphu trek possible with family..?

I did this trek last October with my wife and 7 year old daughter. Besides, if you love nature - nothing is impossible.

There is nothing to worry about this trek at all...have a pair of good shoe with decent rubber sole is the most important thing other than any trekking gear while you to trek Sandakphu-phalut. View all the threads regarding Sandakphu-phalut trekking here in IM [which will help you a lot]...provide your trek details, planning so far...and then ask more specific questions...

When will you be visiting ?

Should carry protective gear for rains if visiting at this time. May be a Poncho or rain coat will do. A good jacket for protection from Cold. Will not be too cold at this time though.
Also, think of investing a bit on trekking shoes if possible. You can start with Bata Weinbrienner (hope I spelt it correctly) or Forclaz 500(advanced one).
A rucksack to carry your clothes and other important items.
These are basic items that you should consider carrying in your trek.

we are visiting mid of November or 1st of December in this year. How much price of a good trekking shoes of a good rucksack. What will be our budget for sandakphu-phalut trekking. Please guide me.

The price depends on which type of shoes you are looking for...firstly you can go for sneakers[Rs 400/- 1200/-], may be for more better grip and comfort you can choose other shoes [Rs 1500-2200/-], for ankle support you can pick more costly kind of shoes[Rs. 2400/-5000/-]...

The same thing applies regarding Rucksack also...There are many kind of Rucksacks you can found with capacity of 50-80 ltrs...with variable prices...[Rs. 1800/- 4000/-]

And once again friend I'm telling that you have to provide your complete itinerary regarding your trek [which are no of days,day wise trek plan or journey schedules, your plan for stay etc]. otherwise the picture is incomplete to describe how much it is going to cost...If I assume that you are doing this within 7-8 days it might cost you around 12K for 3 people. But again this is just assumption ...you understand..???

4th day Kalapokhri - Sandakphu
5th day Sandakphu - Phalut
6th day Phalut - Gorkhey
7th day If any route from gorkhey to Darjeeling then we take that if not then to Srikhola
*8th day Srikhola to Darjeeling Via Rimbik
One day rest in darjeeling
Then back to kolkata.

It is our plan. Is our plan OK? Is November December good time for trek Sandakphu?? Please tell me the budget. If you can tell me the Guide cost(with food/without food) then it will be help full to me.

it seems to be a perfect plan for first time trekker, but i think december would be a tough call, prefer november, i went there last year during november and got a crystal clear weather. u will get porter cum guide @ 350/- per day (fixed price) who will carry one bag, u need not provide food for them. food would be get costly as u go up. u will get rooms @ 250/- to 350/- for three people also dormatory available @ 80/- to 100/-.
