1) You can merge day 27 and 28 if you want coz of new road being constructed...

2) I won't recommend Manali to Chandratal in a day, instead, it 'd work better if you do it reverse...Manali to Hampta Pass to Chandratal...or stay at Batal for a day and proceed to Chandratal next morning.

3) I hope you don't mean trekking all the way from Chandratal to Chatru. Chandratal to KunzumLa/ Batal trek and then vehicle to Chatru can be done easily in a day, but I'm not sure if you'll get state bus at noon time or later (when you'll reach KunzumLa/ Batal) you might have to pre-arrange something or hope for a lift.

Overall I'd prefer exactly reverse itinerary to yours as you'd escape all the pre-arrange transport that you might need in this
and also better for acclimatization.

And I am also planning this trek but in May end or June 1st week, can't plan for August now, life changes too fast these days...Might be my first Solo trek. Bit scared
Although civilization is a nice place to visit, I wouldn't want to live there...

I am really interested in doing Hampta Pass and Chandratal Trek.

It is not recommended to drive directly from Manali to Chandratal(4270m) as there is chance of AMS. In fact, Chandratal is a follow-up to Hampta Pass trek.

My suggested itinerary:
Day 1 -- Manali to Jagatsukh(Road - 1hr)/Jagatsukh to Sauroto(12km - 4hrs)
Day 2 -- Sauroto to 2nd Camp(9km - 4hrs)
Day 3 -- 2nd Camp to Chikha(12km - 4hrs)
Day 4 -- Chikha to Balu Ka Ghera(9km - 3hrs)
Day 5 -- Balu Ka Ghera to Hampta Pass to Siliguri(15km - 6hrs)
Day 6 -- Siliguri to Chatru(10km - 3hrs)/Chatru to Batal(Road)
Day 7 -- Batal to Chandratal(15km - 7hrs)
Day 8 -- Chandratal
Day 9 -- Chandratal to Batal(15km - 7hrs)
Day 10 -- Batal to Manali(Road - 6hrs)

THanx everyone...

Hi AMAN....

1.I heard about the new road..How far this new road goes? And how is the vehicle frequency from there?

2.We do have a reserve day in hand so if necessary we can stay near Kunzum La for a night and trek to the tal next day...And I prefer Hampta pass from Chatru side because in that case we will have a starting point of 11000 ft. and from there most of the trek will be downwards after the pass.By doing so we can save one day.....

3.We are looking to start with the first light for Kunzum La and hopefully we will be able to catch the bus if not will definitely look for lift.[]

Best of luck for your trek....I wish we could do it together but this is a perfect trek to begin as a solo trekker...

Cheers.........

Hi Funny_in

Thanx for the advise...We initially planed to go by the itinerary you suggested but that will need one more day and we are a bit short of time...So after consulting with some seniors we figured out this itinerary to be the most effective one...

By the way I heard that these days the road goes till Panduropa. So by starting from there this trek becomes a two day walk upto the pass.

Cheers.........

Road goes to Panduropa I guess, check this thread post# 36

help:buran ghati

No idea about availability of transport

And bus from Kaza to Manali leaves Kaza at 5am, and it should take maybe 4-5 hours from Kaza to Kunzum, so you might catch it if you leave early

In my itinerary I was planning to add Bhrigu lake too, the itinerary then would go like

day n) Panduropa to Bhrigu lake
day n+1) Bhrigu lake to Gulaba..drive to Manali.

You might add this too.

Hi All,

Has anyone done the Hampta pass-chandratal trek in the last few weeks? We were planning to do the Batal-Baralacha trek from Sep 11-18, but apparently the two streams on the trek are overflowing. So we looking for other options.

Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Hi - am planning trekking Manali-Hamta-Chandratal-Baralachala in Aug end / Sep beginning. Had another trek being postponed, so the less time. Questions:

1. Can someone suggest a good guide and places for equipment / proter hire - would like to pre-arrange to save time. The agency i used for a short trek last time, is quoting quite high an amount.

2. I am solo right now and would be open to someone joining in.

3. Are there any impediments currently for this route?

while there was no response - just to update dates shifted to September 3rd week. Open to co-travellers to make it more cost effective.
