New Delhi, June 16: The wife of a Canadian diplomat, trapped in snow at a height of 1,500 ft north of Dharamshala, in Himachal Pradesh, was rescued by the Indian Air Force (IAF) here today.

Ruth Norsalk, on a trekking expedition 20 km north of Dharamshala, slipped during the trek and was injured. The Canadian High Commission officials had sought the help of the IAF yesterday.

An Mi-17 helicopter from Udhampur, in Jammu and Kashmir, was pressed into action but could not land due to bad weather conditions yesterday, an IAF statement said.

Air Commodore Raj Assey re-launched the rescue mission at first light this morning, taking off from Udhampur in the smaller 'Cheetah' helicopter. The pilot had to use a winch to rescue the trekker as it was not possible to land the helicopter at the mishap spot.

She was flown to the Air Force base at Pathankot, where she was given first-aid and later flown to the Command Hospital in Chandigarh in an Mi-17 helicopter. (Agencies)

This pass is always in news-three times I myseld has seen storms and high velocity winds. Last section is real techincal-no fault of them but it would be better if they would have taken some guide from DHARAMKOT or MACLEOD GANJ.

As AVID SAY: We all learn from our mistakes. In trekking/mountaineering you die from your mistakes!!
