Camping equipment in Uttarkashi

I am planing to trek to Nandanvan Vasuki Tal this October. Where can I get good camping equipment for rent in Uttarkashi. How is the quality? Some phone numbers would help.

Any advice on what kind of camping equipment I should take along would be welcome. We would be about 10 of us.

Hire from Carabin in Okhla Delhi. very cheap. Rates uploaded on www.bcmtouring.com afaik, else drop me a pm - will call them up and ask!

We are also planning to go Gangotri->Gomukh->Tapovan->Nandanvan on 15th May'2008. We need a good guide, can anyone tell us the contact details of some good guide, i.e., name and phone numbers.

Hi all, We are a team of 7 trekers going to trek Tapovan - Nandanvan - Vasuki taal. We got the Ph. No. of Guide- Shambhu Rawat. His number can help you (09359955146). We also got this nimber from IM. We are moving from Kolkata at 26th April.

did you engage Shambhu Rawat's service in gangotri - tapovan trip. how was his service. what was the rate. He seems like a Travel operator and not a guide himself.

Pl give more information.

I happend to use Shambhu Rawat's services accidentally on my trek to Tapovan a few years back. I struck up a good rapport with him. Whenever he finds out that my group and I are trekking he is keen to guide us. He is still in contact with me.

Now for my experience: There is no doubt that Shambhu knows most routes well. However, he is canny and rather shrewd in his operations. Be careful of hidden charges that come up now and then. You need to be experienced (probably done many treks yourself) to deal with him (and you'll get a good service). But if you are a first time trekker, stay away.

can you please elaborate about his rates. Iam not new to treks. But never engaged porters and guides.

Shambhu likes to organise the entire trek himself. Right from getting equipment, to guides and porters. He sees himself as a trekking agency. Check to see whether he is going to guide the trek or anyone else. Frankly, that does not matter. Most other guides are equally good. Again, check to see if they have done the route multiple times.

Shambhu usually charges on a per person basis or on the entire trek. He could charge anything from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per person per day rate. This should be your rough benchmark.
