no, it does not grow in the plains. in fact, it grows at altitudes above 12k or 13k feet.

Hi,

Actually, there is (atleast) two types of Bramhakamal

One is found in high altitude meadows of Himalayas and the other is a decorative plant, as per my guess, could be grown anywhere, as I have seen one of it in Maharashtra.

Here is both the pics

Just saw a picture of it in "mid-day" in Mumbai a couple of days before. the plant is grown by a mumbai resident and the flower had bloomed the night before.

Just check the mid-day.com site and see if you can get a picture. I just threw the newspaper today morning.

regards
mani

Hi,
I agree with Rakesh. The second picture looks like the ‘Queen of the Night’ or ‘Night Queen’ (Epiphyllum oxypetalum). Amazingly it is similar to my plant I’ve two photographs right now those were snapped a couple of months back. Though the quality of the pic is not good but it will give you the idea why I am confused.

Yes, in West Bengal it is known as Night Queen. However, people here in Maharashtra/Mumbai are hell bent on calling it Brhmakamal.
