Har ki Doon & Borasu Pass Trek

The Borasu pass trek is a difficult trek. No comparison to Har ki doon.
The YHAI routes including Har ki doon can be done by anyone who is reasonably fit. Currently the best option is to join YHAI at Sankri. It works out cheaper.... and it is five star trekking. [ you don't have to pitch tents in heavy rain, you don't have to cook breakfast at five in the morning, you don't have to wash ALL the cooking vessels at frozen glacier streams... you don't have to carry a full load... etc. ] If not this year, go next May

also attach any map that u have....

is it possible to attempt Barasu pass by trekking team (not a mountaineering expedition with aal gears)???

GARHWAL TO KINNAUR TREK VIA BARASU PASS (5360 M)


Day 1 MORI– OSLA (2560 m / 8400 ft)
After an early breakfast we drive to Taluka (45 kms) and from there trek 13 kms to reach Osla ( 5-6 hrs). Overnight in tents.
Day 2 OSLA – HAR-KI-DUN (3566 m / 11700 ft)
Today we will trek 12 kms to reach Har-Ki-Dun, this will take about 7-8 hrs moving at a leisurely pace so as to enjoy the beauty of the valley. Overnight in tents.
Day 3 HAR-KI-DUN
On this day everyone does his own thing. One can go on an exploratory trek in the valley, capture some magnificent views on the camera, or just chill at the campsite. Overnight in tents.
Day 4 HAR KI DUN - MORINDATAL (4200 m)
Today we trek 6 kms at moderate pace to reach Morinda tal. Overnight in tents
Day 5 MORINDATAL – BARASU PASS (5360 m) - CAMP
Today we trek 8 Kms to reach Barasu Pass. We pitch our camp on the other side after crossing over to the other side of the the pass. Overnight in tents.
Day 6 CAMP – ZUPICA GAD DOARIA CAMP GROUND (4000 m)
On this day we trek 10 kms to reach Doaria, Overnight in camp.

Day 7 DOARIA – CHITKUL (3430 m)
Today’s trek is of 10 kms takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight in Chitkul Village.

Day 8 CHITKUL - SANGLA
Today we drive from Chitkul to Sangla. Overnight in Kinner camp at Sangla

Day 9 After breakfast proceed with your onwards journey. Trip ends here.

COST OF THE TRIP


Rs. 13,500 Per Person (for a group of 10 people)

 Accommodation in Dome/Alpine tents on twin sharing basis.
 Meals: All meals beginning with lunch on Day 1 to break fast on Day 9. On the trek meals will be freshly prepared by the kitchen staff accompanying the group. Meals will be a variety of Indian, Chinese and Continental. Meals would be vegetarian except for Sangla & Chitkul.
 Camping equipment like tents, sleeping bags, mattresses, camping stools
etc.
 Professional and experienced trekking guide will accompany the group.
Guide would be a senior mountaineer caable of handling technical situations.
 Porters for carrying camping equipment and some amount of personal gear
of the clients.
 Camping chares at various locations

This looks like an express trek..
You would be doing a marathon on mountains if you reach Har ki Dun from Mori in 2 days.. the iterinary is wrong.. The distance from Osla to Har ki dun is much more than 12 kms.. Even again its not easy to reach Osla from Mori in one day.. You would trekking 28 kms in a single day to reach OSla from Taluka which is the roadhead and Taluka 40kms from Mori..

Pls check up with those guys agian..

Agree with jyotipg.

You just cannot do this schedule in 9 days. In case you back out due to altitude sickness, is there any refund possible?.

What is the quote if the figure falls to 8 persons? or 6? or 4?

Again, trying to cross Borasu ghati before 15th July is asking for trouble [too much snow] Are ALL your ten members experienced enough? Prepared to walk in snow/ice for five hours at a stretch?

Thanks for the caution. Trek from Taluka to osla is about 6-7 hrs of walk. From Osla to Har-ki-doon it is 8 hr walk. Fairly simple. We've done it before. Beyond that.... We have trekked at 47-4800 metres. But walking in snow ..this will be the first one. We are planning the trek in 2nd,3rd week of August and getting prepared for that.
About itinerary I'll take your advise and get in touch with them. Actually we are planning to reach Taluka on our own. GIO will leave us at Sangla from where we plan heading home via HT road-jalori pass-Aut-punjab.

I'll find out about refunds in case somebody pulls out.

Day 2 Osla to Har Ki Doon, is a height gain from 8400 to 11700... more than 3000 feet. It may happen to be more than 8 hours walking. Take care. Acclimatize well. [i see that the next day is chilling out]

You can reach upto Sankri (Last motrable road head) by bus. Here you can contact one of very good friend of mine: Shri Chandan Singh Rana. He a highly qualified mountaineer from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. He has completed all the courses from the institute and that too with 'A' grade in all of them. He has also summited Bhagirathi - I in the Gangotri valley, Black Peak and Kala Nag - the famous peaks of this region, all above 6000 meters. He has in depth knowledge about the high altitude passes of this region and has guided both Indian and Foreign expeditions through these peaks and passes. Sankri is a small village and everyone knows him well. I am sure you will not have any problem finding him.

You can write a letter to him regarding your plans and am sure he will be able to provide your group with an expedition very reasonable rates.

where is the gangotri I peak??? r u referring to bhagirathi I..???

and as far as i know kalanag and black peak are name of the same peak. its a ideal 6000+ peak to climb and free too. it is near the ruinsera taal.

and where is ur itinerary of swargarohini base from har-ki-dun???

Sorry for the mistake, I meant Bhagirathi - I peak in the Gangotri valley. No Black peak and Kalanag are two seperate peaks. The Black peak is behind the Kalanag peak. All four of them are clearly visible from Sankri (the last motrable road head towards this route). First from left being Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Kalanag and slightly behind is Black peak (if I am right, Pl. correct me if I am not.).

See the YHAI trek allows trekkers upto Har Ki Doon Valley only. However, myself and the guide both talked it out and we decided to go up to the Swargrohini Base early in the morning without informing the camp leader. And we actually did it. It took us about one and half hours to reach quite near to the base. But to reach actual base (glacier) it would have taken another two hours or so and we could not afford to be missing from the camp for so long. We did a good survey of the peak and its lower reaches. We had great fun.

I will confirm......I know a few persons who have done black peak summit.
but the true thing is that there is discripancy in naming convensions... If 4 peaks exists and we photograph them thats enough for us...we r not doing survey!!!!

Hi Lucky,

You need to write a letter to him at least one month in advance as the nearest phone booth is four hours from Sankri so you may not be able to talk to him directly. Better write a letter to him informing him about your group size, group experience level, fitness level of participants, your plan for the expedition, your budget and any other thing that you think he should know. I know him personally and he is a through gentleman and best of mountaineers, very cool and highly experienced with a wealth of knowledge to share. You will have a great time with him.
