Best Trekking Shoes?
Best Trekking Shoes?
Hey,
I need some suggestions. I visited the brands I know Reebok/Adidas/Nike to find the trekking/all terrain shoes. I found the best one in NIKE. The average pricing of these shoes is about 4.5 K INR.
What do you guys suggest? Tell me about the kind you have and you are really satisfied from them for trekking/running etc.
Thank you

Happy Trekking!
Cheers!
Thanks for putting the link mate, its huge and got a few recommendations.
But what I understand from the thread is not to go for Woodland, which I had in my mind.
Throw me some other options as well, considering I would be trekking most of the times in south Indian treks, which I guess would be wet.
There would be occasional Snow treks as well that I could be doing.

its very difficult to get merrell/northface/lowa etc in india i have checked in bangalore but could not get them. nepal is the place where you can get norhface. here in india you can get forclaz 500 or 900.
what is more important before buying the type of trail. if its simple trail you can use ordinary shoes like nike etc. for bit tough terrain go for forclaz 500 even hunter shoe.
Merrell will be available in Metro Outlets (i had seen in Chennai). But they will be Moab ventilators and not ankle variety you get at US.
However at Kobbler (a retail at Chennai) i did see a best variety of Merrell costing Rs.6999.
NorthFace i am not sure, but Lowa wont be available in India for sure. Since d.real.napster is at Bangkok, he can try it at Thailand, as i hd seen shoes manufactured at China, Thailand etc
And i did forget to mention Head 910, which may be available in Mumbai and probably HiTech
Bangalore Metro (Please make a call and check) - For Merrell

shayam here i wanna ask the purpose of shoe i mean which trail that person is going to hit. Hey,
Sorry I got to change my location from Bangkok to Chennai.
Anyway, treks would basically be in South Indian ranges, say 90%.
Anyway, I just learned that I would be going to China very soon. What do you guys suggest now?
In the meanwhile, I am checking all the brands mentioned above! Thanks

try to get a northface shoes if you r going to china. for southindian terrain forclaz 500 is sufficient.
As Eklaiva suggests,
For South Indian treks (exp at Karnataka/Kerala) ordinary jogging shoes
will suffice (by this i mean Reebok/Nike/Proline class).
Also if you are very budget conscious, you may get "Action" trekking shoes or hunter shoe
To me, western ghats will be leech infested so its better i wont go for high ankles, so u know if leech has penetrated or not.
If you prefer high ankle shows Forclaz 500 is best as it has good ankle support which can wade water off.
--------------
For himalayas, its better to make better investment with ankle supprt+waterproof, so minimum is Forclaz 500 and possibly any of Merrell/NorthFace/Lowa/Meindl/Danner/Zamberlan/Cabela etc at a competitive rate/with waterproof or goretex lining and prefereably vibram sole, with good ankle support, then go for it.

I think it is a very late reply but might help a few. I have tried and tested (though not owned) these Lowa shoes in a store in US and believe me... they are the best you can get. These are European made and not the China products like the ones from TNF etc. And I have made a call myself to a store in Dehradun (Paramount enterprises) which is listed in Lowa's website. These are COSTLY (the version, Renegade GTX Mid, I might purchase one day costs Rs. 11,000
... but my feet are very important to me and are worth that amount, atleast!) but will protect your feet like no other piece of engineering you might have seen. And of course... for an Indian hiker, these may last for atleast a decade, atleast! Finally, a big thanks to Roxxi for pointing out these to me!Merrell Moab Ventilators (low) are infact awesome shoes and I have just got a pair of these for half price in US. These are very very comfortable, extremely breathable and have great traction on wet surfaces (They employ Vibram outsoles), marshes, gravel and to an extent on smooth rocks (due to a higher outsole surface area as opposed to some lug based outsole patterns). These look tiny but have got a great punch. The only downside is, they are not waterproof but the upside of which is that they dry very quickly and could arguably be the BEST summer/monsoon hiking shoes for Mid-South India (This is specifically why I brought these). Also these are small enough to be packed easily into a backpack!
Happy and safe hiking...

@ menka - My personal experience with Merrell is actually disappointing on wet trails - not only they slip (and this is the moab ventilator), a part of the vibram sole came slightly off after some mild hiking in manali area.
My old timberland shoes, though not fit for hiking (they're more for working in snowy conditions) have held up very well on the same trail. So, I'd suggest you take a look at Tims. Google shows me timberland has a retail store in lower parel. I have the Chocorua gore-tex hikers (in addition to the shoes) and they cannot be beat for the money.
