Yeah sure, I'll write a report on the trek very soon. You're absolutely right, we need to make it easier. That's very important. That part of the Himalayas, particularly the Khatling Gl, is still almost unexplored by the Indians. Only some of the foreign teams visit there once in 2/3 yrs.
Martin Moran explored that region last yr and according to him it's "...a valley of exquisite sylvan beauty and a vast mountaineering potential that has barely been tapped". http://www.moran-mountain.co.uk/mora...n-pillars.html BTW, our guide was Attar from Mount Support, Uttarkashi. He is the brother of Lakshman, a very well known HAF. Will let you know his contact no. later.. Hi Dooms, we went along Rudgaira Gl up to the col and Rudgaira valley & Kedartal are in two opposite sides of Patangini Dhar (ridge). |

Hi,
Just went through the writeups on my return. Well, enough has been written about the trek and I agree about the difficult sections. The climb down the col is also ok but the section between the two waterfalls is really something to worry about, since it is rotten rock and may be down anytime, which would make this section really bad to climbdown. Well, our team crossed it on 17 Sep and at the col a recc team of Rimo Expeditions met us, this team came down from Kedarnath and was fast moving with One guide Neema from Romo, One local Uttarkashi guide and a single porter. We camped at 5200 meters between the two big crevasses. (May intrest the teams who crossed before us). Also, we did not have the guide. The rope was also used only at the second waterfall by three members/ porters. Another team was supposed to be leaving Gangotri on 19 Sep for the trek. What happened to their trek, I have no idea. So, the trek is already popular and hopefully see more activity next year. Bye VSK |

May seem awful, I am lone & don’t have a team and am interested in doing the trek from Gangotri to Kedarnath via Auden’s Col, Khatling, Chowki. Can someone help me get a guide cum porter, any contact number etc. Are there ay permits that I have to take. If so from where. Or if any of you are doing this trek in 2008, can I be induced in it. Heaps of thanx for helping me out
