Can this Nandi Kund be seen on Google earth ??
A good trek which takes you from Okimath to Helang in 09/10 days. You will not get much info on this.Six days no contact with others.Visit"himalayancamping. com" and have a look of the trek. Article on the same may appear during Dec or so.
Enjoy

So, may be the ideal year for your for this trek.. ..

One of the lesser known trek is the Nandi Kund trek abt which I have querried you several times..

And how abt Dhumdhar Kandi pass?? A 3D view of the route on google earth gives a good idea of the difficulty level..

I have been spending a good amount of time in weekends on google earth taking virtual tours of some of these esoteric treks. Its really addictive..
Well It is my first day and I have seen lot about the places I want to visit. Well, all said and done Dhumdhar khandi is much easier than Auden's col though you cannot undermine it also. For this also the photos are on the "himalayancamping.com".

Hi Landoormama
Sorry, about Mr Bidyut Sarkar. I don't think he has an email id.
Moreover, he's quite an elderly person and his appearance is somewhat like an old sadhu.

Hi VSK Sharma
You are right about the trek. However, the walk may be of 10-12 days. There are 2 technical sections - one down Auden's Col and another after it. The second one is tougher and about 2 1/2 rope lenghts.
Bose & Co. started from Ghuttu and not from Kedarnath.
hope this helps.
cheers
joe

Trekking route is via many of the passes, most popular being Singali La. The entire trek from Manebhanjyang to Phalut is on the border hence a crossing point. If you have started from the south and are working your way upwards north, you will see cement border markers all along. Descend to the left you are in Nepal, descend right and you are in India.

Who will stamp your entry visa?

No norder posts at these places.

Correction for my own statements made earlier :
I've just seen some more slides of the route. The second one is not exactly a vertical climbdown. Rather, it is a badly broken trail (sections have fallen away) that slopes and clings to the side of a vertical rock face. One will have to negotiate this stretch using all fours. A fall can be fatal. It is located just after the snout of Khatling on the true left immediately past a waterfall.

A minimum of 2 ropes and sufficient climbing gear is required for the entire trek.

My team is leaving on 2 Sept. Unfortunately I won't be a part of it due to some unavoidable (read irritating) personal reasons. After so much of preparation, I have to be on the sidelines only!
Darn!

cheers

Hi Joe,
It's really painful to miss after so much preparation. You say the team is leaving on 02 Sep. Can you exactly tell from which side are they going for the Auden's col and when they are on the actual trail. May be we are there during the same time.
Bye

Thumbs up Best of Luck for the Team

HI JOEMONDAL,

I am reading the entire post since the first post. This year on 28'th May, we crossed the mayali Pass and reached Kedarnath through Vasuki Tal. The feelings were really like being on the top of the world while we reched on the Mayali Pass. The entire regeoin is very beautiful, even the Ghuttu - Khatling Glacier Bhilanganga river trek is very scenic. After reaching Khatling, you are in real Himalaya. After camping at Chowki near Phatling Glacier, next day we camped just below Masar Tal. This is the best campsite in the whole trek. The veiws are just awesome with almost all the Peaks Auden col, Jogin Peaks, Jaonlin, Theley sagar, Kirti Stambha and Bharte Kuntha are in view. The day and night was very cold and temperature was near -10* in the night. The whole night we just sat in Tent and started very early at around 4 AM for Mayali Pass. On the day itself, while dealing with my digital camera in snow and cold, the memory of the card is washed away and I lost some of my rare and priceless photographs. I took some photographs at 3.30 AM with chilling temperature.

My Guide Anil Rawat (Brother of Shabhu rawat)and his temmates told me about lots of trek he has done. Auden's Col is one of them. He showed me the route to auden's col and rudragaira while climbing to Masar Tal. According to him it's realy tough climb but encouraged me that if you want to do the trek (for me it's mini exepedition)I will take you. I will definitely plan this expedition in comin years but before that I am planning for Kalindi Khal.

Here is the link for the trip photographs.

Happy outdoor,

Auden's Col

Hi Joe,

I've crossed Auden's col. Just returned back yesterday. We crossed from Gangotri and reached Ghuttu after 12 days strenous walk (got lots of fresh snow). We were 4 and had a guide & 2 porters. Crossing the col, in particular, is nothing to negotiating Khatling gl. A memorable experience. It's more than trekking, rather an expedition. But not that horrifying.

One needs to be well-trained, experienced and needs strong nerve in some places. Full of adventure, enjoyed a lot.

Cheers!!!

Wow congrats bohemraj on completing a difficult trek

I was there in Chowki area by around Sep 8 on way to crossing Mayali pass. My guide had been to kedartal just before coming with us and he remarked there was knee deep snow at around kedartal. Must have been mighty difficult to cross the glacier. Do let us know your experience in detail. And dont forget the pics!

Auden's Col 2006

Hi Dooms,

Yeah, actually we got delayed by two days due to snowfall. Otherwise our plan was to trek upto Gaurikund through Mayali pass, not lucky enough to achieve the feat of "Gangotri to Kedarnath". And 8th Sep when you were in Chowki, we were on Khatling Gl itself.

Photos.. yes, lots of photos.. I've selected 267 from 550!!! and uploaded into <http://www.imagestation.com/album/in...?id=2101764248>

You can watch the "Rabbit's ear" in IMG_1433 & IMG_1431a,
Gangotri-III North ridge in IMG_1347 & South face in IMG_1431b,
Jogin I in IMG_1409a, Avalanche from Jogin I in IMG_1407a,
Jaonli in IMG_1431...

A 200ft rapelling down just after the Col (IMG_1422b-f) and a 100ft traverse in a vertical rock face with more than 300ft drop (IMG_1505a - IMG_1512v) were the most thrilling parts and off course numerous crevasses & huge Burgshrund...

Unfortunately we missed Thalaysagar

Wow amazing pics! Had no idea it would be that beautiful. Didnt you visit kedartal? Didnt see it in the pics.
Definitely not for guys like me.
Trust me crossing Mayali would have been a walk in the park after what you have done. It was just 3 days from there. You ran out of food or something? You could have bought some ration from the sheperds at chowki. We did!

Congratulations, Bohemraj!!!
Great Pics indeed!
Certainly not a trip for the faint-hearted.
Sorry to hear you missed the Chowki section.
My team too ended up in Ghuttu because the guide did not know the Chowki route, which he only disclosed during the trek.
Weather was fairly good which is THE most important factor in this region that can turn an adventure into a nightmare.
