Hi Jyoti
No mention. But, hey guys I didn't mean to discourage you. Honestly. I believe that if there is a good amount of snow deposition in the previous months, this trek is quite do-able. And there indeed has been such a precipitation in the last couple of seasons. cheers |

not discouraged...

I try to do what I call the ""outer edge"" treks. Meaning they are just a little short of Mountaineering expeditions. For example, Manirang Pass in Kinnaur. And now, Auden's Col in Uttaranchal.... if you are well prepared its not really very difficult. Yes, you cannot take first timers. Thanks for the elaborate write up, joemondal. I am encouraged.

Avid,
There have been reports of much lesser snowfall this year.. So, may be the ideal year for your for this trek.. ..One of the lesser known trek is the Nandi Kund trek abt which I have querried you several times.. And how abt Dhumdhar Kandi pass?? A 3D view of the route on google earth gives a good idea of the difficulty level.. I have been spending a good amount of time in weekends on google earth taking virtual tours of some of these esoteric treks. Its really addictive.. ![]() ![]()

Dhumdhar kaandi pass
When I was at Har ki doon, I asked the guide about the Dhumdhar Kaandi pass
[Ruisara tal to Harsil] He said it was do-able... as was the Badaasu Ghati [Borasu pass] Of course, we have a narrow window of 15 Aug to 15 Sept for most of these difficult passes..... some can be attempted upto 5th of Oct as well.... |

Thanx AndreasW
AndreasW, you should get Himalayan citizenship!
Now it seems the two passes {Audens & Dhumdhaar} are competing with each other for degree of difficulty.... ![]() |

Thanks all of you...
Thank you joemondal, AndreasW, jyotipg... for the warm wishes.
It seems to be some sort of good omen that I am being wished on the Auden's col thread... rather than the "Birthday thread"?? Here's to Auden's col then.... My friends of Pin Parvati trek are planning Kaali heni Pass--- BadaBanghaal---Thamsar Pass--- Billing this year.... Its not really very challenging but a beautiful trek.. I don't know whether I'll go or not... |

info on Lamkhaga
Hi Joe,
can you pass me some info on Lamkhaga? Am planning to cross it from Harshil around last week of August. Any kind of info will be helpful. I know that lots of trekkers from Bengal crossed it in recent times. Do you knowanyone of them whom I can contact personally? Cheers, Raj |

Hi Joe mondal ,
I read Bidyut Sarkar's article on his Trans Himalayn Exploits in a very Old Magazine and was very much impressed , he did it solo without a guide in the seventies . If you could do me a favour ! could you give me his email i.d I would want to write to him. Thanks for all your help . Cheers |

Auden's Col
Hi everyone,The article by bose is good one but is from the otherside i.e. Kedarnath to Gangotri and reading it really makes one feel weak. Well no doubt it is a tough trek and requires crossing two high passes and walking on two heavily crevessed glaciers, but if the conditions are good one(propely covered) should not have problem crossing it. The main problem seems to be on the 04th day of moving out of Gangotri when getting down from Auden's col and traversing the kathaling glacier. I am going for this trek this Sep and plan to depart from Gangotri on 09/10 Sep.It seems to be a 10 day trek and we move out Kedarnath. hope we will be able to finish it. Bye |
