Anyone going for MEA organised Kailash Mansarovar yatra 2011

I have been selected for Batch 9 of KM Yatra 2011. Anyone else in this forum who has been selected kindly respond!!

My dada went with MEA in 2005. I went to see off him upto Delhi...it was a great experience.

Thanks, I did it via Nepal in 2008. But I am very excited for this one.

I've read books and also seen videos...of both the routes.
But I feel this tour would really be homely...You'll understand that when you'll reach Delhi....
Where are you told to report at Delhi???

I have no idea, i checked the results on the net. Till now I have not received any notification from them officially so as of now no idea where to report, what to do etc etc

They will send you a telegram confirming you...and will request you to send a draft in favour of KMVN to confirm your seat. In that telegram they will mention the place where accommodation for the yatris have been made. You'll have to reach there and you'll be provided a room to stay. The KMVN officer will meet you there and he will arrange everything (visa, medical, visit to South Block, etc.) for the yatris.

I am not aware whether the system has changed in this year.

One good thing for me is that you will be back before I leave so I can have forst hand information from you.

Tell me have you received any official telegram from MEA or did you check your results on the net?

Batch 12 of KM Yatra 2011. I am really looking forward to it.

I have not yet received any telegram from MEA. I have checked it on the net. I had also called up the MEA and they replied that they are in the process of despatching the confirmation letters and it would take some more time for the letters to reach us.

Any preparations that you have started already?

Yesterday I have received the confirmation letter from MEA asking me to send the DD of Rs 5000 by 2nd May 2011. I will be sending the DD tomorrow.

Preparations have started, started going on brisk walks in the morning, had shopped for most of the items when I was first selected in 2009 but was unable to undertake the yatra then. Really looking forward for the yatra this time around.

Great, did you receive the confirmation letter through registered post/ speed post or was it a normal letter?

Why I ask is as I sometime do not trust these govt offices to function properly. For instance when I sent them my application I sent them a self addressed post card (as requested by them) to confirm that they have received the application. I have been selected also, yet I have not received the confirmation post card

So hoping that I will also recieve the confirmation letter soon.

I have a few questions regarding preparations.

1. Camera/ Battery- Are you taking extra batteries as the life reduces in high altitudes and charging points are limited?

2. Will some NGO give us rain coats/ rucksacks? or will u be buying them yourself?

3. Hard suitcases are not allowed, so what do you plan to carry your luggage in??

Dear Prasanth and Archies: Pranams and congratulations on the selection.I am located at bangalore and I have also been selected for a later batch -15th starting on 21st August. I think we can exchange notes/ideas as it unfolds. Your dates is pretty fast -4th June-right?
I am a bit overweight and I need a few months to improve my fitness to be confident at next level ofg medicals:-)
