Hi Krishna,
I had gone on this trek in december of 2004. It is a fairly easy trek and you should do just fine. About things to carry, stick to the list YHAI gives you - it is sufficient. Some points: 1) Generally they run out of rain sheets at Dalhousie - so you would do well to carry your own raincover or poncho. 2) You will be asked to carry a tiffin box for the packed lunch - carry some dishwash powder too since most likely you will carry a tupperware plastic box(airtight) and it gets messy if washed only with water. And carry 2 boxes. Many times packed lunch is poori-bhaji. 3) If you do not have a trekking bag, YHAI will provide you with one at Dalhousie. 4) Carry 4 pairs of socks and if your shoes are not water proof, carry a couple of candles - rub these on your shoes morning and evening - will help in keeping them water proof to quiet an extent. 5) On the last leg of the trek from Khajiar to Chamba, you need to walk on the road for 4-5 kms. You will see water flowing by the road. Even if you are terribly thirsty - DO NOT drink it. It is clean looking drainage water . You will find handpumps ahead Thats all I can remember. Have fun trekking! |

hi kkrisna,
its a good experience to be with yhai. i have done quite few tereks with them. as you are on first batch, it will be more cleanly. the route is good. as leapfrog said, the patch towards chamba is madness on tar road. kala top is the place you will really enjoy. try to carry CANDID POWDER. it comes handy. the worst experience wth me was at chamba. your batch in charges is supposed to book tickets for whole batch on bus to dalhouse. i had done the booking of 50 participents of the batch by my money.( off cource collected latter from dalhouse). the group was divided in two due to seats availablity problem. That time there was no direct bus to dalhousie from chamba. it deroutes narly 3 km before dalhousie bus station. but if you pay Rs. 5 extra they drop you at junction from which yhai is hardly 10 minuts walking diastance. try to see that the tikckets are booked in advance. rest of the trekk in general fun.
