airport security check, trouble with gear?

Ok. maybe a silly question, but it suddenly occured to me that one specific, but vital part of our gear may cause us trouble on the flight from Europe.

Our primus omnifuel stove uses kerosine or gas or whatever. The point being that it SMELLS like gasoline, even though the bottle is empty and so forth. (Naturally we will not bring anything flammable on the flight)

Has anybody been on international flights with this type of gear?
Have they bothered you about emty kerosine bottles because of the smell?

Perhaps other things we might bring that have caused a ruccus at the airport, which you have experience from?

Yes, it may attract attention.
No, you will not be prevented from boarding with it. (in checked luggage, of course)

Drain thoroughly, and scrub the outside. Better yet, leave it at home and use a local kerosene stove.

gear in flight

rickshawwala

is right-you can wash it thoroughly and pack. I do not see any reason that this should not be cleared. Many many trekkers and climbers bring these stoves in India.
You can also use butane gas and refill cylinders are available in India also.
Although slight costly as India does not produce any good quality climbing gear.

You have other option open for you also-use a Indian stove which we all use while trekking or climbing. This is not much costly: A good stove may cost you aprox : US$ 10/12

I think what well do, since we really want our own little stove, is to use chemically pure gasoline, while trekking in Sweden before we leave.

If we then leave the container open for a few days, all will evaporate : )

We'll let you know if they hassle us!
