Advise Please! Bhaba Pass/ Tarik La Kinnaur

Hi

Is there anyone who could advise on Bhaba Pass/ Tarik La Kinnaur?

First, I'm a little confused; is it the same trek?

We are hoping to go next month and would like to take it a little leasurely using perhaps 6 or 7 nights on the trail... any reccomendations on best Route, Trekking company, weather in October or any other useful tips would be much appreciated

There is a bridge now to cross the river to bhawa pass on the pin valley side near ching patta maidan. Work is in progress to make a road to road to bhawa pass but it will years away from completion. Last week, I saw just a team of 5 -6 labourers in ching patta maidan which was doing the road construction using hand tools.. so, u can imagine the time that it would take to complete.

Lightbulb Shock !!!

I got a shock when I saw Dr Barai's post..... to be replaced by immense relief after reading jyotipg's.

Last year, in sept 2005 the bridge opposite ching put maidan was barely started and there were around 3 to 4 labourers there.

Now, the bridge is done !!! ???

That too in a year? By just 5 labourers?

Very impressive

If this bridge had been in place last year, it would have saved me the two day trek to Mud and back on the opposite bank.... I crossed the Pin Bhaba pass from Mud to Kafnu and the Bhaba valley is just out of this World !

Dr Barai, upto which point could you take your bike?

Trekkers.... please trek the beautiful enchanting Bhabha valley before the said road gets completed !!!

A lot of new work has been going on near the Ching Patta Maidan. Right at the maidan, there a makeshift bridge with 2 logs which labourers use to cross over.

The road bridge which has to be used by vehicles to cross over the river is still non existent. rather a stretch of the road which would connect to the bridge has been blocked by landslides.
So, its would take sometime before bikes can venture into bhawa valley.

A kilometer down the maidan, there is a proper wood bridge which can be used by human and mules to cross. Also the water level in the river was pretty low. One could cross over the river by removing the shoes.

Also around 4-5 kms before maidan on the Pin pass side, suddenly a nice freshly laid 3 feets wide mule trail apeared from no where. It was ran for more than a km and then disappeared into no where.

Mudh is the most beautiful village I have seen till now. Very silent, nice cool crisp wind, bright sun, breath taking mountains views and a river flowing below. Totaly cut off tourist crowd. No wonder that some of the bachelor in my team were contemplating part of their honeymoon there.

Ya- late october is NO GOOD at all...

While I am typing these lines- weather is fine but cold is coming up sharply in plains and mountain nights are getting colder.

I would suggest- THINK AGAIN !

It is status quo.

Kuchcha Road from Mudh to Ching put maidan on the true left bank of the Pin river. (see pic in my photo gallery). Trail to Bhaba is on the opp bank. From here, a bridge is being built for the last five years, to cross over to the true right bank and thence to Bhaba Pass.

You can mobike upto Ching put maidan, ONLY IF you can lift your bike over two-three logs kept across the trail at two to three places just outside Mudh at some 80 m distance.

Meaning you will require the help of two three men to do the lifting on your way out and way in. Budget for time at Mudh.

Gaurav Punj has written an article in the IM articles section where he writes that the road before Mudh is washed out. No date available. PM him and ask the date of his event.

Wow! And just the other day I was mentioning in ksb's GHRT thread that about time they built a road from Attargo to Wangtu!

Avid,
so IF that bridge at Chingpatta were in place, and IF the road near Mudh is ok now, does that mean one cud possibly drive thru to Wangtu?!! I know that a road goes from Wangtu towards Yangpa/Muling.

The said road is supposed to be an all-weather one, meaning they may tunnel some distance under the Bhaba Pass ??? God alone knows.

The Govt always wanted an all weather road to Leh NOT via Kargil to avoid future shelling from across the LOC (after the Kargil fiasco). One such thing is the tunnel under Rohtang. It starts below Solang and comes out in a Valley going left of Darcha. (forget the name)

Another at Wangtu got short shrift somehow. The asphalted road exists from Wangtu to Kafnu. Can be easily extended to Mulling and further on to Neugal. (24 km?) Then comes the mountain or tunnel part. Under or over Pin Bhaba Pass. "Over" would not make sense coz I saw good solid snow bridges over the Wangar River as far down as 500 feet above Kafnu in Sept 2005.

On the other side, a kachchaa road exists upto Chingput maidan and a bridge is being built there across the Pin river by exactly four workers who may complete it by 2017.

Between Chingput maidan and Kafnu is a long distance to bridge that requires political will. I pray it does not happen anytime soon, coz I fell in love with that Valley, the valley that has Mulling etc. One of the most beautiful that I have seen in the Himalaya. Very verdant, green, mostly untouched by "civlization". Full of rare flora and fauna. Very easy to trek upto the bottom of the Pin Bhaba Pass. Even by beginners or mere walkers. Very pleasant to merely just camp and stay. No trekking. One can go on mules from Kafnu.

Let me get my fill of this place before the inevitable happens. So I am praying that the road does not come up any day sooner... than 2017
