Advice regarding trekking in November

I have a month off in November and I am interested in mountain trekking in India. I have about 21 days of trekking time and would appreciate advice on some destinations.

I understand the Gangotri route is probably not worthwhile as the town closes in that month.

Any areas in the NE? Is it possible to visit Kanchenjunga base camp? Any other treks from Darjeeling.

I am reasonably familiar with trekking having done Tibet and Everest base camp before.

Any advice on the destination is welcome. I am looking for a moderate challenge of 12, 000 feet at least.

Exclamation Snow assured

Hi,

In November, @12,000 elevation, snow trekking should be assured.

In November u can head up to Dzongri(Sikkim) quite comfortably and can have nice view of Kanchenjunga. Up to Goecha-La , should be a tough job, but still if u can manage it, the porters or guides can create problem.

Sandakphu-Falut is a good option and a bit of challenge in November. Have 11500 ft. elevation also.

Gangotri region , don't take that much of risk. U can try for Har-ki-doon, Dodital etc. Coz. glacier zone in winter season can become fatal in seconds.

Thank you Roy!

I suspected the NE mountains would be relatively spared from the Siberian winds.

Could you explain how porters may create problems?

Also, when I did Langtang (years ago) I hired a guide for $30 a day and there were tea stalls along route. I certainly don't feel confident trekking solo and will need the help of a guide. I don't mind getting a bit ripped off as long as I have a decent guide. Do you know what I might have to pay?

Many thanks Roy.

BTW this website is a godsend. You guys really know what you are talking about!

Arrow Guide

A Guide charges us Indians 500 to 800 rupees a day.... if they see a caucasian face they ask 1.5 to 2 times this amount. Guide will not carry your sack. For this you will have to hire a porter [at approx 200 to 300 per day]

Best is to ask for a "guide cum porter" who will do both the jobs and negotiate the terms in advance. Make it clear in advance that the guide will have to carry "so many" kilos of your stuff. (else he won't)

In the month of Nov. main thing is what is the snow condition in thats time .
If you want trek in the Uttranchal so there are some trek where you can do some trek like kauripass(mundoli to Joshimath)Pindari Glacier & lots of trek in low altitude.
If you want see Himalayan view from HImanchal to Nepal(380 kms) then their is one traditional trek(Britsh) & Old time its in way to Tibet.
So if you intrested then i send you all details.
