5000+ mtrs on October - which trek is best?

Hello

I want to do a trek in october but not sure if weather/cold will permit it.
Is there a ladhak or himachal or Uttaranchal/Uttarakhand trek possible that isn't going to require technical icecraft and stuff?

Cheers

All treks in Ladakh in October , with any serious heights , will involve some seriously cold nights , I would recommend some prior cold experience under less strenous forms. Coping with cold also becomes harder when at altitude. Water levels low , fording lot easier.

A couple of IMers are doing the Roopkund trek first week of October. Why not join them? The trek is fabulous in terms of scenic beauty and also gives you the 5000 mts high. And yes, you will not need any technical gear.

There is a team that is leaving on 28 September (from Delhi) and another solo trekker on 29 September. Let me know if you want more details on them.

If you are looking to do any serious 5000 mts + trek in late October, perish the thought.

5000+ Trek

It is possible if you trek in Nepal. The Annapurna Circuit crossing the Thorong La at 5000+mtr. is possible in late October or early November. On the Everest side, the trek to Everest Base Camp via Gokyo and the Cho La also ventures above 5000 mts. There are many other treks above 5000 m. in Nepal which are possible in October/November.

I heard ppl don't let you trek solo in nepal - they steal your stuff and sabotage your plans if you don't hire a local guide. Any body else can verify this ?

Thanks for the idea. I will look at my nepal guide more closely.

Cheers
