3 weeks trekking in november/ december: sugesstions please...

Hello,

first sorry for my bad English!

From 24. of november 2009 I’m in India.
I have upto 22. of december (have to be back at Delhi Airport, 3 weeks for trekking) time for trekking.

In the past I do some treks, I’m having experiences and full equipment to go alone. I’m interested in some short treks closed together in an area or better longer one/ two.

I like more high altitude trekking then in flat areas (better cold than hot!) in undeveloped areas. Accommodations could be trekkers hut/ home stay or in my tent. Even if I go trekking in areas with places to stay I like take my tent, sleeping bag, stove, food… for the opportunities of extension/ side trips away from the main way without facilities to stay.

I like go alone, maybe with other trekkers I meet on the way – without guide/ porter/ horses…
Means areas with restriction with special permit are off limit.

I ask you for suggestions for area and name of trek (starting and end point) - than I can do my own research much more easily.
Between short treks I don’t like go too much to the next starting point…

If I can’t get information’s or it’s too difficult to fix different treks together than I will decide for WB/ Sikkim.
I have closed friends there and know the area, I’m happy do some walks again. Then in Sikkim I will walk from Pelling via Yuksom to Gangtok.

Already now “Thank You very much” for your help,

Best regards
rimbick

trekking options arround Haridwar

Haridwar is closed to Delhi - that's a pluspoint...
There are options for winter trekking?

I think abbout Dodi Tal, Ukhimath...

Can I make same treks in that area, which can cover the time of 3weeks?

It's necessary to have permits?

Thanks for you help.

Best regards,
rimbick

Again help please ...

Hello Abhi_trekker and other IMs,

thank you for reply and your advice!
I answer very very late, because in summer my day could have 26 hour, there are in warm/ hot weather to many things to do…
Now in autum (it goes already to the winter) I am more inside…

Last week I get my visa and in little more then three weeks I like say “Hello India”!
80 percent of my stuff is already checked and ready for packing.

Trekking:

The Singalila trek to Sandakphu/ Phalut I'm know very well - before I live some time there...
I could do new walks in Sikkim, in this time I have a plan ticket only to Delhi and it is a long way from there to WB/ SK.

For the ice trek on the river it's maybe too early (and alone little risky...)

About the trek to the Milam/ Ralam glacier I read, that may be at (half way) an ITBP-checkpoint say: “Not further”. Trekking arround Tawaghat needs special permit …

My choice:
Before I already read abbout Har-Ki-Doon and now I like choice this trek first.
May be first I go Delhi – Dehra Dun by train/bus. From there by shared jeep/ bus to Mussoorie/ Barkot/ Netwar.

After this trek I like go (drive) to Bageshwar. Via which places I can do this? Must go again down to Dehra Dun?

I like trek to Pindari Glacier, may be side treks Dwali to Kafni Glacier and/ or Khati to Sunderdunga Glacier. Good choice?

Or first to Gwaldam/ Bedni Bugyal direction Kuari pass and back???

My important question is:
Which permission needs a foreigner to do these treks?
If any, where I have to apply for?

I have 21/22 days time to go from and be back in Delhi, then two days spare time/ or for relaxing from trekking and like fly home…

You have other suggestions for me?

Thank you and again sorry for my mistakes!
Lots of greetings,
Jan

Hi, Rimbick.

Thanks for showing intrest in Uttrakhand himalayas to spend your Holidays,,
yes you have a lot and lot of options at Uttrakhand Himalayas where you can spend 3 week. you can visit Pandav kholi in Almora District, you can also visit Pindari, Kafni or Sunderdhunga..
valley
Khaliya Top, Munsyari District.

but dear friend where ever you go in Uttarakhand in this time of the year you will get extreme cold conditions and more over the days are shorter as compared to summers. so make shoure you are ready to face the chill before you go to these places. if you have any further query or you need any sort of help in himalays you can always e-mail me at sandeeppandey007@gmail.com or you can call me on +91-9808106006.

Hi Sandeep,

thank you for you replay.
I think, the cold weather is no problem for me.
At daytime, if I walk, for sure I don't feel cold. For me important: that my ears warm (had) and if its windy to wear a windbreaker (goretex j. or windstopper fleece).
In the evenings may be it's possible to sit on a fire (locals) or if I stay allone, I sleep then early.

I checked now the temperature for some places there: for one night the forecast say minimum (+) 2°c at Mussoorie (2.000m), otherwise more up.
The days are now with arround 10,5 h from sunrise to sunset short - to get up early is for me no problem and I can do then my way.
If it's late and I don't reach my day destination, no problem, I have everything with me!

I like make some treks and wish to go to some places. I have no obligations and it is not essential for me to be there!
If I to assess the situation (bad weather, snow, difficult pfath...) and its a risk or will overcharge me, I can and do say "No...".

I wrote down your number, where do you live?

Greetings,
J.
