Hiya
it's difficult to get thru all the "layers" of auroville in just a few days. If you have limited time, research it quite well before you go - then you can visit the places that interest you when you get there. Definitely hire a moped - you can get one from Ranganathan who has a shop in Kuilapalayam, or up the road at New Creation.
Try visiting Johnny at Fertile if he has any spare time - he's a really cool dude and Fertile is stunning (if you can find it!). You should find his number in the AV phone directory. Most communities are happy for you to visit if you call beforehand.
You might also like to visit Vijay at Fertile Windmill - you can book an appointment with him during which he asks you loads of questions and determines which stone is right for you to wear -he has a shop full of stones and stone jewellery, but the appointment is free and he doesn't leave you feeling obliged to buy anything.
Hope that helps a bit......

Depends where you rent, the rent is upwards from 80 Rupees (in Pondy) to 120-150 in Auroville. A regular drivers licence is okay. get an international one in your country, but you will hardly ever need it. With that you could drive even a Bullet (350 or 500 cc).

That just means he didn't encounter an awkward policeman.

An International Driving Permit is easy to get, through the AA
