Weather in Ooty in late January

I am considering going to Ooty in January. How cold is it usually at that time. Is it too cold to trek? Thanks much. Googer

No. It will not be too cold. Likely to be between 10 to 20 deg Celsius in the day time.

In the night you will feel like putting on all your sweaters and in the afternoon you will feel like even taking your skin off.

I don't think it ever gets too hot in that cold and wet place?

Yes, my one visit to Ooty was spoilt by being unprepared for the cold (in July), and I'd recommend hot water bottles for the night!

It didn't endear itself to me at all. I'd say to stay somewhere like Coonor, where it is relatively warmer, and visit Ooty and the high places in the day.

We usually visit the Nilgiris district in January. Kumar is right, at night it is freezing, many times below zero and during the day you can roam around in half sleeves. On one visit, the skin on my nose peeled due to sunburn!

The mid day sun is quite intense, perhaps due to the high altitude and low latitude combination.

I found Ooty - the town, warmer than the surrounding areas we visited.
