Warning about Mamallapuram!

Went to Mamallapuram in the beginning of January. Had heard about this nice place and its music festival. The place was quiet enough, but we didn't see much of the festival (or perhaps we didn't look for it!). That's not the warning. Read in the Lonely PLanet that the local beach was used by the locals as their toilet. Presumed that it was like on almost every other beach in India, BUT the beach (which was nice by the way) was really a shithole!!!!!! Big piles of shit washed in by the waves. At first my friend didn't see it and went for a swim. That same night i threw up (if it was caused by the swim, we'll never know).
SO, STAY OUT OF THE WATER!

Well, the early morning has some shit , but one has to be quite , well i am sorry , to be unable to see this.

To swim comfortably at Mamallapuram go to the south beach , south of the shore temple and if you go to the northern part , then you need to walk a kilometre or so from the fishing village and you will be absolutely fine.

btw that is where some of the resorts are located.
