Visit to Kalthatty

Hi All

I am planning to visit Kalhatty near Ooty sometime in the next month. Was wondering if it is a good time of the year to visit the place. Also, are there any safety concerns to be looked at ?
Please let me know.

I've been to kalhatti falls twice and I did like it a lot. Its coz, you dont find any tourist over there. The lonely trek for abt 2 km thro forest is lovely.
But at the same time, it is not like other falls. There is no way, you could get into the water (atleast near the falls). and you will be alone over there, as the local tourists doesnt wanna trek 2 kms.

So, it depends on your taste. If you are looking for falls which is touristy and not risky, you can try Pykara. But I'm not sure abt the water level in this season

Ananth - Thanks for sharing the details. Just have a couple of queries :

1. Are there any safety concerns at this place as you are saying that there will not be too many tourists around ?

2. Any recommendations in terms of the accomodation ?

Thanks in advance

1. I dont think there are any safety concerns. However, we were just a couple of guys, so didnt find it as a pblm. Dont know, if you are going as a family. But, we did see a super combo family of around 20 members returning, while we started.

2. There are no lodges are anything for accomodation nearby. You need to look for accomodation in ooty. The kalhatti falls come on the way to mudumalai from ooty. Remember, there are two routes to mudumalai from ooty, you need to take the shorter one to goto kalhatti.

btw, if you are looking for some lonely forest area, I would suggest going to Avalanche forest. let me know, your mode of transport.
