I am planing to make trip to Topslip , Valparai and Athirapally falls. Can any one inform about the road condition in this place. Pollachi to topslip, topslip to valparai then Valparai to Athirapally falls. Can we plan this trip with the Brand new car tata Manza? I heard road condition from Valparai to Athirapally falls will be very bad.. Can we make this through Tata Manza else we need a vehicle with more ground clearance.. Please inform abt the road condition over Pollachi to topslip, topslip to valparai then Valparai to Athirapally falls to travel in brand new car...

Thanks
Mohan

Pollachi to topslip is quite good.. Topslip to valparai, i'm not quite sure of..
But regarding valpara to athirappily, the road is pretty bumpy.. But you can do it in a sedan.. You will need a vehicle with a not so heavy clutch if you are not a regular driver.. 50 kms in that route will need changing of gears every 100 metre..
idukki, thekkadi... idukki, thekkadi..

Valparai to athirapally distance Road Condition

From Madurai or elsewhere there are three routes to Athirapally either you can take the first point is either reaching Pollachi or Udumalaipettai

(1)Enroute via Valparai adventurous journey through thich forest.(Shortest saves almost 100km). but if you get caught in the middle you have to wait until someone comes for help. Not even mobile coverage. But you will be accompanied by few dangerous wild friends.
Madurai-Udumalaipettai-Valparai-Sholayar dam- Athirapally

(2)Safest route Madurai-Udumalaipettai-Pollachi-Arthur-Chalakudy-Athirapally.(saves 30kms)

(3)Safest route
Madurai-Udumalaipettai-Pollachi-Palakkad-Chalakudy-Athirapally.

People who dont know to reach Arthur can use the third optiion.

I travelled in an Omini so hope Manza handle such bumpy roads..

Topslip is different route and Valparai is in different route. If you are going from Chennai shortest route would be Chennai-Tiruppur/Coimbatore-Udumalaipettai/Pollachi-Aliyar-Valparai. For topslip udumalaipettai-Masaniamman temple-topslip

Route to Topslip and Valparai is fine but choose the route that suits you to reach Athirapally. Load your petrol tank full before starting to Valparai because the petrol cost will have Rs.10 extra at Valparai and Valparai-Athirapally doesn't have a petrol bunk. But can get petrol in black market that too omly in two spots in Sho;ayar dam and Kerala border.

At last we made the trip successfully... Valparai to Athirapally road is awesome...We made the trip in mid of Aug... Very scenic road with no crowd and full of water every where.. But its bit narrow and road is in bad condition in very few places.... Sure we pass through this road with all the kind of vehicle... Last fifteen km from Athirapally is full forest with lot of elephants, Only thing which we need to think about... Since roads are narrow we need to wait till the elephants move out from road side... If you are not the animal lover don't choose this road....

Hi Mohan,

Thanks for your very useful post.

I am planning to go for a trip to Valparai next week (Sep first week).
My route is..
Bangalore->Mysore->Ooty->Conoor->Coimbatore->Pollachi->Valparai->Athirapilly->Chalakudy->Kottayam.
(It is a 5 day drive plan)
My vehicle is Hyundai i10 (1.5 years old)

Can you please let me know about the road condition of...
Coimbatore to Pollachi
Pollachi to Aliyar dam and
Aliyar dam to Valparai
As I have never travelled through this route, I have no idea about the road condition.

How was the rain during your trip?
Was it raining heavily, once in a while rain or not much rain?
