Tureya Ashram in Kodaikanal

Hi everyone,

This is my first post in thie forum.

I am looking to travel to the Tureya Ashram in Kodaikanal in Mid February 2010.
As this is my first visit to India, i will be taking a flight from Chennai-Madurai but i'm not 100% sure on the best way to get to Kodaikanal.

Can anyone please advise on the best routes to get from Madurai to Kodaikanal. Any other useful information on the Ashram or the surrounding areas would be very much appreciated.

Also, i will be travelling alone and is there anything that i as a single female traveller should be aware of.

Thanks~

Buses and taxis / share taxis from Madurai. You can hire a taxi from the Madurai airport at the pre paid counter itself but it will be expensive. About 3 hrs travel time by cab.

Best if you contact the ashram and ask them to recommend a taxi driver or particular bus service, or better still, to arrange for your pick up since you are alone.

It is quite safe but as a single female, preferably avoid travel alone after dark and in remote areas - common precaution anywhere in the world.

Bus services:
http://www.madurai.com/pactour.htm

If you see on that page, there is someone offering a Madurai Kodaikanal drop at Rs 200/- per head, which is a very reasonable price. But it is better if you ask the ashram for guidance.
