Unhappy Tsunami & Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram)

Just wondering whether the tsunami spared the famous rock cut temples of Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) just 50 Kilometers south of Madras (Chennai) or not?

If anybody has any news, plz do post....

ami: since u enquired abut Mamallapuram, herez a news story that might be of help to you...

Tourists trickle back to Mamallapuram
(Indo-Asian News Service)

Mammallapuram (Tamil Nadu), January 8, 2005|13:07 IST

This ancient town in Tamil Nadu seems to have exorcised the ghost of the tsunamis, with the famous shore temple standing tall amid the ruins and exerting its legendary pull on tourists.

The port town, some 50 km north of Chennai, is limping back to normal almost two weeks after it was wrecked by tidal waves.

Tourists are coming back, shops close to the beach have been set up again and are doing modest business, so are the stalls set up by the tourism department to display the arts and crafts of southern India.

"Mahabs" is 65 km South of Madras, not North.
the Hindustan times article in your link refers more than once to Mahabs as a "port town," which is was once, but not in the last 1,000 years. . . .
The article reads like a phone interview from Delhi of a tour operator.

Does anyone know if the annual dance festival is off? I would imagine it has been cancelled, but can't find any info.
