Hi, we r 10 travelling from chennai to cbe by train durin april mid.from cbe to ooty we plan to go by tempo traveller.we may be staying in sterling or other hotel in ooty. Any of you get me a clear scheldule as we will be staying for 2 nights and 3 days. Is coonoor & kothagiri is reasonable trip from ooty? From cbe to ooty is there any spot that we can view?

Kotagiri is not far away - you could make this a half day trip. I went there on the local bus from Ooty, for an afternoon. Coonoor by road also not very far - plenty of sightseeing points there too. It might be nice to go in the morning and have your lunch there, then come back, fitting in the sightseeing points as you go. Both very unspoilt scenic places - well this was in '95 what they are like now, someone else will need to update you!

rahulcal - can you explain what you mean here? I don't understand it, and I don't think olivegreen will either.

Olive, if you need someone to prepare an itinerary for you, I suggest you visit a travels company. For a very small extra payment they will plan and book everything for you.

You might also find a map useful.

Olive,
Dont fret too much. Ooty is a relatively small place, i dont feel its really needed to make any fixed plans before you reach there. I would suggest you get in touch with tour operators/travel agents after you land there.

Not sure of the exact distance between Coimbatore airport & railway station, but given Coimbatore's size I would'nt say its too great.

Also I suggest you travel by 'Nilgiri toy train' to Ooty from Coimbatore, its a nice experience & takes around 4.5hours. Its far better than being tossed and turned around in a bus when you go through those hairpin bends.

Great!

Remember it will be cold up there, especially after Chennai. You will all need to take the necessary clothes, or buy warm stuff on arrival.

I made that mistake

Notwithstanding the fact that that means driving all the way back down to the plain, I'd agree entirely. The drive there and back is enjoyable.

Also a chance for a warm up!

kothagiri is not far it is about 1hr from ooty, if you go via coonoor then 1.30mins. its better to have your lunch in coonoor as there are no big hotels in Kothagiri.

Airport is 45mins from the railway station, and it is not on the way to ooty.
